Previews and Predictions of the Three Contests I will be Attending in the Final Week of the Regular Season.

7-2 Catasauqua Roughriders at 9-0 Northwestern Lehigh Tigers Friday 6pm. Last Meeting 10/30/20 won by Northwestern 37-6.

Northwestern looks to stay perfect in the regular season finale under the field guidance of quarterback Justin Holmes, who has thrown for 1,092 yards and rushed for 973 yards in 2021. He has completed 56 of 102 passes and has 13 touchdowns against five interceptions in addition to scoring 17 touchdowns on 131 carries via the ground game. Cade Christopher and Dalton Clymer compliment the running game by accumulating 420 and 419 yards respectively with each finding the end zone six times apiece. Christopher is also the team leader in receiving with 568 yards on 28 receptions and has 9 touchdowns.Sophomore Blaine Snyder leads the defense in tackles with 74 and Drew Sable is second with 61.

Northwestern is coming off a 42-14 win last week against Saucon Valley in which Holmes was 10 of 13 for 187 yards and two scores and zero picks. Clymer led the way rushing with 71 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns.

Catasauqua is having it’s best season since 2013 and is poised to pullan upset in New Tripoli. The Roughriders only two losses came against Palmerton 42-8 and Minersville 43-27. They are led by junior QB Christian Frye who has completed 50 of 97 passes for 858 yards and 9 touchdowns with five interceptions. Senior Elijah Soler leads the rushing attack with 614 yards on 121 carries and four scores. Anthonie Hunsicker has seven touchdowns on the season while picking up 322 yards on 50 carries. Sophomore Ian Juica is the leading receiver in catches with 23 for 277 yards and Wyatt Younes has the most yards receiving with 490 on 20 receptions and 6 touchdowns.

The weather is going to play a part, as it will in almost all the games this weekend, the team that can avoid costly turnovers and run the ball best should prevail. Holywood’s Pick: Northwestern 38-7.

1-8 William Allen Canaries at 2-6 Louis Dieruff Huskies Saturday 1pm at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown. Last meeting 10/31/20 Dieruff won 25-12.

Back in the day I was told this game would nearly be a sellout at the 15,000 seat venue on the west side of the city. The teams would march down Linden Street with both bands present from the Allen High School in preparation for this contest. Today, times have changed as the crowds and pageantry have dwindled over the years, but the intensity remains as both schools vie for the crown of City Champion(Public School). Dieruff comes into this game after suffering a 48-7 loss last week to unbeaten Northampton. The Huskies are led by senior quarterback Jovan Rodriguez who is 42 of 68 passing and 4 touchdowns. Christian Sell, running back has 101 yards on 29 carries and a touchdown. Sophomore Mekhi Ashby has 81 yards rushing on 12 attempts and two scores. Christopher Sell is the teams leading receiver with 18 catches for 384 yards and two touchdowns while Xavier Rodriguez contributed 207 yards on 7 receptions and two touchdowns. The defense is led by LB Jose Ramos with 12 tackles this season.

William Allen is coming off it’s most prolific scoring outburst in many years in a 71-8 thumping of winless East Stroudsburg North. Running backs Clarence Watkins and Dwight Harriston lead the team with 155 yards and 99 yards respectively. Watkins carried the ball 27 times while Harriston has 17 tallies and they have combined for three touchdowns.

This game again will come down to who wants it more. Both teams look to improve in 2022 and this could be the stepping stone. Hollywood’s Pick: Dieruff earns its third win on the season 28-24.

2-6 Bethlehem Catholic Golden Hawks at 6-3 Allentown Central Catholic Vikings Saturday night 7pm at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown. Last meeting 11/13/2020 Central Catholic won 38-17.

Playoff implications involved with this year’s “Holy War” between the two Lehigh Valley Catholic schools to be played out on the field turf Saturday night as the Vikings look to grab the second seed in the upcoming District XI playoffs in the 4A classification. Pottsville is also looking for that spot as they face unbeaten North Schuylkill this weekend. Bethlehem Catholic needs a win an some help to gain the fourth and final seed in the bracket.

Central Catholic are on a two game winning streak after losing to Nazareth 18-0 on October 8th. The Vikings took care of Whitehall 21-7 and last week a 49-0 win over Pocono Mountain East. Junior quarterback Tamlin Ferguson has thrown for 1,128 yards on 95 of 157 passes and four touchdowns. Travis Foster has picked up 349 yards on 120 carries this season and 4 scores while Caiden Shaffer has 30 tallies for 223 yards and 4 touchdowns. Griffen Patridge(445yds), Armonie Torres(307yds) and Jareel Calhoun(155 yds) are leading the team in receiving. Patridge also leads the Vikings in tackles with 16.

Bethlehem Catholic have dropped four of their last five games, including three in a row. 41-3 to Emmaus, 35-7 to the Parkland Trojans and last week a close 24-21 defeat to cross-town rival Bethlehem Freedom. Becahi has quarterback Jared Richardson completing 117 of 191 passes for 1,285 yards with nine touchdowns. He has also rushed for 400 yards on 68 carries and scored five times. Running Back Zyaire Morris has carried the ball 112 times for 425 yards and six touchdowns. Jaiden Ellis-Lahey leads the receiving corps with 34 receptions for 471 yards and two touchdowns. Antonio Ramos-Dobbins is the leading tackler for the defense with 30 and has seven quarterback sacks.

This game is always fun to watch, no matter the records, with so much at stake for both teams, I expect both squads to bring their A-game, but Hollywood thinks too much fire power for Central Catholic will prevail 38-20
