Behind a Dominate Offensive Line Caiden Shaffer Powers The Vikings The Hawks in “Holy War II”.

WHITEHALL- For the third consecutive year the Vikings of Allentown Central Catholic are PIAA District XI 4A champions, this time their victim was the Golden Hawks of Bethlehem Catholic, their fiercest rival in what has been known in the Lehigh Valley as the “Holy War” by a 14-3 score at Zephyr Stadium Saturday night. Earlier this season the Hawks were victorious when they converted a two-point conversion in overtime for a 14-13 win at J. Birney Crum Stadium.

Shaffer’s regular jersey bearing the number 26 went missing this week and could not be located so he switched to number 43 but that did nothing to deter him from performing to his full potential behind a dominate offensive line providing adequate holes for the running back to dice up the Becahi defense.

Bethlehem Catholic started off the contest with a big run by Jacob Sutton for 41 yards and the Thomas hooked up with DJ Kelly for another big gain of 18 yards to set up the Golden Hawks inside the Viking 20, but they could not penetrate the end zone and were force to settle for a 24 yard field goal by Jeremy Fyrer and 3-0 lead with 8:54 left in the first quarter.

The Vikings didn’t get on the board until 7:57 left in the first half as Shaffer capped off a 12 play 81 yard drive that took just over five minutes with a three yard score to make it 7-3. Shaffer finished the contest with 154 yards on 24 carries and both touchdowns giving the Vikings their 14th overall District XI title.

Becahi had several possessions inside the Vikings 20 but could not score as Nasir McClean, Armonie Torres and Travis Foster all had interceptions for Central Catholic.

The score remained at 7-3 until the fourth quarter as with just 3:38 left Shaffer pounded in from a yard out making it 14-3 after the PAT. That score capped off another 11 play 80 yard drive. The key play being quarterback Tamlin Ferguson hooked up with Aiden Sorrentino for 31 yards.

Neither team really threatened down the stretch and the Vikings earned their revenge win over the Hawks. Central Catholic (7-5) will now face District IV Champion Jersey Shore Bulldogs (12-0) Jersey Shore defeated Central Catholic in last year’s playoff 20-7 at J. Birney Crum Stadium. This year the game will be played out in District IV at a siate, Date and time yeat to be determined. Becahi closes out it’s season at 6-6.
