Danville has entered a territory that they’ve only traversed once before. They advanced to the state semi-final round with a chance to play for a state title. They’ve appeared in 5 piaa quarterfinals & were 1-4. Until today. Their only win was against Archbishop Carroll in 2020. Until today. That year they lost to Wyomissing. Make it 2-4 in six tries. They’ll try to win a semi-final game next week against Northwestern Lehigh, a team that was runner up last year. The Ironmen handed a 27-7 loss to a scrappy Bermudian Sprins team despite several untimely turnovers and penalties.
“We never apologize for a victory” said Danville head coach Carl Majer. “Do we to get sharper on things? It’s been that way all year. We look good at times and then we shoot ourselves in the foot.”
Bermudian started thing off with what appeared to be a great drive but the Ironman defense made a fourth down stop. Three plays later Madden Patrick found a wide open Cole Duffy for a 39 yard TD with 6:56 left in the first quarter.

Things appeared to be unraveling for the Eagles fast. Landon Kehoe sacked Bermudian quarterback Lane Hubbard for a big loss forcing a punt that gave Danville the ball on its 49. Patrick Tim off for a big gain, the Bo Sheptock gave them a first down on the 17. Cameron Kiersch carried twice to the 6 and following a penalty Sheptock found the endzone again. The kick was blocked keeping th e score 13-6.

Danville had another opportunity to score after #7 intercepted Hubbard but Patrick was picked off in the endzone by Jack Gautsch. After exchanging punts the Eagles found the scoreboard. Aided by a 15 yard penalty and several nice pass connections by Hubbard, the Eagle got the ball to the Danville one and Hubbard carried the ball in from the 1/2 add mark to get Bermudian within a score but that’s as close as they would get.

To open the second half Bermudian rolled out what appeared to be a perfect onside kick, but sack by Kiersch forced the Eagles to punt. During the next several series Danville got the ball to the Eagle 7 and fumbled the ball away, then to the Eagle 27 on a pass and fumbled the ball away. It wasn’t until the 2:50 mark in the third that the Ironmen were able to begin to pull away. Sheptock carried the ball in from 9 yards out to put Danville up 20-7.
Wind had it’s affect and limited the Danville vaunted passing game. “It definitely had an affect. When they were pressing I always had confidence in my line and when they backed off we went to the run game” said Patrick who was 8 of 14 for 146 yard, 1 td and 1 int.
With their backs against the wall all day due to a tough Ironmen defense, Bermudian was force into a passing game that had minimal affect. Danville put the game away with another Sheptock td with 3:16 left in the game.
Sheptock was his usual workhorse self carrying the ball 28 times for 139 and 3 tds and a fumble. “I just have to give credit to the offensive line and the receivers as well” said Sheptock who committed to St. Francis earlier in the week. “They give me good blocks and clear reads. It was a hard fought game but we made some adjustments at halftime after having some mistakes in the first half and got the win”.
“Defense been playing well. We have 3-4 legit guys that can really run and hit. It’s a new step in Danville’s history, we’ve only been here this far one time and never won 13 games in a row” said Majer.
