Shaahid Jones a 6-0 225 lb who led the Tigers in tackles recently gave his commitment to attend Lackawanna College to continue his academic & football careers. Shaahid when asked about his experience playing high school football explained “I would say my high school experience wasn’t the most ideal, I had to deal with constant instances of adversity”. Originally, he started at Mastbaum High but due to low numbers they had issues fielding teams from 2021-2022. He also dealt with nagging injuries and opted to transfer for his senior season to Kensington but reiterated that “he wouldn’t trade his experience for the world”. Shaahid found the recruiting process rather difficult “My talents on the field caught the attention of lots of coaches but my grades kept me from being able to consider certain schools & programs.

Born & raised in North Philadelphia, specifically the “Badlands area” Shaahid finalist came down to Lackawanna, Keystone College & Louisburg College (NC). He stated “I choose Lackawanna because of its history turning underrated talents like me into Division 1 players. Shaahid intends to major in professional studies upon enrolling at Lackawanna.  When asked about his Kensington Head Coach he wished to disclose “Coach Quigs was the captain of the ship to Kensington’s success over the last few years. I only got to play for him for one season but that’s all it took for e to realize how much he loves the game, and his passion is contagious. To the team I hope you all come to appreciate Coach Quigs more than we did”.

Shaahid is a devout Muslim who also expressed giving thanks to those who helped him get to this stage in his life he stated “First & foremost I want to thank Allah for perfecting his favor upon me & creating me a Muslim. Next, I want to thank my parents for raising a kind, respectful & workaholic. And lastly, I would like to thank all of my friends & companions who believed in me up until now & still believe in me”. Currently Shaahid is preparing to play one final high school game as he will suit up and represent Coach Quigs & the Kensington High Tigers once last time as he will suit up and play for the Public League in the City All-Star game on Saturday May 18th.
