After a successful high school career at La Salle College the end result for Senior OL Lukas Donahue today culminates in him signing a National Letter of Intent with Division 1 FCS program Merrimack College. Merrimack plays in the NEC conference against a host of schools from PA, NY, Massachusetts, New Jersey & Connecticut. Lukas explained that due to the transfer portal and not as many spots being offered for high school recruits, the recruiting process was “quite stressful for me as I’m sure it was for anyone else but besides that it was a fun & eventful journey and I’m blessed to be in the position that I am in”. The other programs that offered Lukas were Stonehill & Duquesne both NEC members as well. “The coaches at those respective programs and the schools are amazing, I had to have a very serious conversation with my family & coaches over the time that I was making my decision. Merrimack stood out because of the coaches, the culture & the school itself. The coaching staff was great with my recruitment & they were great at showing me what Merrimack was all about. The culture at Merrimack is unlike any other that I’ve seen, they’re all like brothers”. While Lukas will leave La Salle this spring also, he’ll be joined by HC John Steinmetz who will be retiring after 45 years at the school as a coach including the past 12 years as head coach. Lukas stated “Playing at La Salle opened up so many opportunities for me and I wouldn’t trade my 4 years there for anything in the World. Coach Steinmetz is a great coach and an even better person. He did an amazing job with making me the player I am today and my recruiting process. There is no other coach I would have rather had”. Lukas plans to major in Business Administration or Sports Management and stated some advice he would pass on to the younger players would be “If you’re looking to get recruited no one’s journey is the same. Don’t worry about offers or stars other players have, worry about yourself. If you can ball, they will find you. The most important thing is to stick to your grind”. He also wanted to make sure to give special thanks to his family, coaches teammates and most importantly God for the encouragement, tools, motivation he’s been given to be in the position he is in today as he’s officially signed to continue his education & football careers at Merrimack College. Joining Lukas will be a familiar face as St. Joes Prep OL Lakeem Steele is also signing with Merrimack today. After 4 years of battling against one another they’ll line up together side by side on the offensive line for the Merrimack Warriors.
