Costly turnovers prove too much to overcome for the Pioneers Thursday in a PIAA 4A championship.

MECHANICSBURG- Lampter-Strasburg Pioneers attempted to finish their season with an unblemished record and capture the school’s first state championship Thursday night at Chapman Field at Cumberland Valley High School. Standing in their way was the Friars of Bonner-Prendie out of District XII in the PIAA State 4A championship. The Friars took advantage of four Pioneer turnovers en route to a 40-14 win on frigid night before a moderate crowd.

Bonner-Prendie jumped out to a 14-0 lead with a Mick Johnson score from a yard out and then a Saleem Frink recovery of his teammates fumble into the end zone with 2:37 left in the opening quarter.

Pioneer quarterback Caileb House connected with Dominic Brown on a 28 yard pass play that cut the lead 14-7 as Brown got behind the defense on a wheel route down the sidelines with 9:26 left before half. Howse was just 1-for6 passing and that touchdown, but did have three interceptions in the contest.

Brown, would tie the score at 14 with a six yard score at the 5:12 mark of the second quarter and Peter Fiorello added his second PAT. The drive covered 54 yards on seven plays. Brown finished the night with 85 yards on 22 carries. Hulse added 124 yards rushing on 24 carries.

But then back-to-back interceptions led to Bonner Prendie touchdowns and a 27-14 lead at intermission.Emory Fuhr led the Pioneers on defense with 18 tackles, 12 of which were solos.

Bonner would score thirteen points in the second half in the convincing win.

Lampeter-Strasburg coach Victor Ridenour stated after the game, :L am so proud of this team. Their work-ethic is second to none. We had a fantastic season and to come up short is disappointing, but we had a tremendous year. We came close a few times to getting to a state championship but this time we made it. Those seniors will be missed not just for their football talent but as as tremendous kids.” he concluded. The Pioneers end their season at 14-1 but the community can be proud of what this team accomplished in 2024.
