Big Red Defense Stymied Blue Knights Offense For Much Of The Contest. Not Allowing A Single First Down Till Second Half.

KINGSTON- The Lawrenceville Big Red is about halfway between Trenton and Princeton in New Jersey. The Big Red made the trip to Nesbitt Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon, and came away with a convincing 29-7 win over Wyoming Seminary before a decent crowd on a brilliant day for football.

Lawrenceville took the opening kickoff and drove consistently into Blue Knight territory. A penalty for too many men on the field against Sem on a fourth-and-one gave the visitors a first down to continue their march for the opening score. The drive culminated in a 13 yard touchdown pass from Simon Fassberg to Brock Getson. Fassberg rolled to his right and Getson made a diving catch at the goal line. Jonathan Yang made the PAT and the Big Redhad a 7-0 lead with 7:18 left in the first quarter.

A turnover on Sem’s ensuing drive would lead to a 40 yard touchdown pass from Fassberg to Colt Lumpris, who got behind the Blue Knight secondary and a 14-0 lead at the 6:01 mark of the quarter. The defenses then took control of the game the rest of the half as neither team could produce points when they had the ball. After a Lawrenceville punt pinned Seminary back inside their own five QB Michael McHugh was sacked for a safety making the score 16-0 with 3:53 left till intermission.

The score remained that way until with just twelve seconds to go in the third quarter quarterback Jacob Zamot hooked up Getson on a 64 yard touchdown pass. Getson escaped three would-be Blue Knight tacklers on his way for his second score and a 23-0 head ing the final 12 minutes.

The Big Red outgained the home team 380 yards to 125, including 282 passing yards to 92. Fassbergwent 17-29 for 189 yards and two touchdowns, while Zamot completed 3 of passes for 93 yards and a score. McHugh for Seminary was 8-17 for 92 yards and one score. Getson only caught two passes all game but both went for scores. Lumpris caught eight passes for 121 yards and that one score. The Big Red doubled up the Blue Knights first down totals 18-9 much of that came late in the contest.

Running back Dayne Bates of Lawrenceville bulled his way into the end zone from five yards out to make it 29-0 with 9:27 left in the contest on his only carry of the game. The PAT was no good. Billy Dunn Jr led the Big Red ground attack with 53 yards on 14 carries.

The one bright spot for Wyoming Seminary was Tiago Francisco, who had an interception in the game and was on the receiving end of a 42 yard touchdown pass from McHugh at the 7:04 mark. Francisco caught two passes for 61 yards and that one touchdown.

Lawrenceville (2-0) and play in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League will face off with CHoate Rosemary Hall School next Saturday at home. Wyoming Seminary (0-2) will not play again until September 28th against Haverford School at 2 p.m at home.
