Erie – The Metro erased an early deficit, then cruised to a 28-7 victory Friday night at Erie Veterans Memorial Stadium in the 86th Erie Lions Club Save-an-Eye All-Star Football Game.

Cathedral Prep’s tailback Suhtaun Lewis rushed for a game-high 142 yards on 11 carries, while Mercyhurst Prep’s Jason Ellman caught two touchdown passes to lead the Metro to victory.

“Not everybody gets this opportunity,” Lewis said. “I got to play one last game with my teammates, so I was really enjoying myself. I was excited and glad to get the ball in my last high school game. I knew what I had to do.”

Despite gaining only 166 yards of offense in the game, the County scored their only touchdown following a three-and-out as General McLane’s Magnus Lloyd scored on a 1-yard run to take the early 7-0 lead.

Lloyd’s touchdown capped off the 4-play 43-yard drive. The drive’s big play came on a double pass when Seneca’s Nolan Seabury connected with North East’s Jamari Curlett on a 39-yard pass.

Curlett led the County offense with two catches for 43 yards and three rushes for 30 yards. Magnus Lloyd rushed for 41 yards on 12 carries.

The Metro tied the score on the ensuing drive, 75 yards in 12 plays. McDowell’s Matt Herbe tossed a 13-yard touchdown to Jason Ellman. Suhtaun Lewis had carries of 15 and 28 yards on the drive.

In the latter stages of the second stanza, the Metro took the lead when Iroquois’ Christian Krysiak threw a 10-yard touchdown to Ellman following a 90-yard drive.

Ellman caught a game-high five passes for 46 yards with a pair of touchdowns.

The Metro took their 14-7 lead into the locker room.

The County took the football to begin the third quarter and ate up over ten minutes of clock in 14 plays before Iroquois Dominic Berarducci intercepted Seabury at the Metro 21-yard line with 1:55 remaining in the third.

Driving 79 yards in eight plays, Suhtaun Lewis, on one of his many elusive rushes, weaved his way on a 34-yard game-clinching touchdown run with 10:25 to play.

“I got the ball and saw the safety come up, so I had to get around him,” said Lewis. “Once I did that, I saw green and knew I had to get into the end zone. We all got to enjoy ourselves out here. It really means everything to me. We knew we had to work hard and execute in practice, and that’s what we did to earn this win.”

After holding the County on downs at their 37-yard line, Erie High’s Keon Somerville scored on a 27-yard run to close the scoring.

Somerville rushed for 22 yards and added two receptions for 20.
