On Friday night, the Montour Spartans beat the Central Valley Warriors 21-20 in an absolute thriller of a game.

On the very first drive of the game, the Spartans marched deep into Warriors territory before the Warriors forced a fumble and recovered it in the endzone for a touchback. However, Montour’s defense would force a punt, and their quarterback Jake Wolfe took it into the end zone himself once Montour got the ball back.

Central Valley responded to Wolfe’s touchdown by scoring less than a minute later. Freshman running back Jance Henry evened up the score at 7-7, which would be our score at the end of the first quarter.

Early on in the second quarter, the Montour offense was backed up in their own end. Wolfe found wide receiver Keino Fitzpatrick II on a screen pass, which Fitzpatrick was able to take all the way to the end zone to put Montour up 14-7. The two teams traded possessions all the way into the half, but the score at halftime was 14-7, in favor of Montour.

Midway into the third quarter, Jance Henry scored his second rushing touchdown of the game for Central Valley, and this one evened the score at 14-14. The Montour Spartans got the ball back and were driving down the field as the third quarter came to a close. They were faced with 4th and goal at the Central Valley three yard line to open the fourth quarter.

The two teams flipped sides of the field, and on 4th and goal, Wolfe ran for his second touchdown of the day for the Spartans.

Central Valley got the ball back and drove all the way down the field and running back Mason Dixon scored with 5:43 remaining in the game. Instead of kicking the extra point to tie the game, the Warriors elected to go for the two point conversion. Montour linebacker Cody Lugalia intercepted the ball and this key play preserved the lead for Montour, 21-20.

After failing on the two point try, Central Valley kicked off to Montour. The Spartans drove all the way down the field and milked the clock all the way down to zero to get the win over the Warriors, 21-20. Here is what Montour quarterback Jake Wolfe had to say after the game.
