The Montour Spartans defeated the Trinity Hillers by a score of 14-7 on Friday night. The radar predicted a lot of precipitation, but the rain held off until late in the fourth quarter.

Trinity received the opening kickoff, but failed to do anything with the ball and had to punt. On Montour’s first drive, senior quarterback Trey Hopper completed a pass to senior wide receiver AJ Alston. Alston trotted into the endzone for the first score of the game.

The score stayed 7-0 in Montour’s favor after several possessions by each side that resulted in punts. Even Trinity’s quarterback, junior Jonah Williamson, had a pooch punt of his own.

On Trinity’s next possession, Williamson scored on a keeper to tie the game. Montour was driving at the end of the first half, but ran out of time inside the opposing 25 yard line. So, the halftime score was 7-7, with Montour set to receive the second half kickoff.

After punts from each team to begin the half, Trinity tried a fake punt. The pass attempt was intercepted by Montour senior linebacker Nino DiMichele. The intended receiver on the play was Trinity junior Khi Bouman, who three plays later, got an interception himself.

As the third quarter came to a close, the score remained 7-7.

Montour had a fourth and goal on Trinity’s six yard line midway through the fourth quarter, but Hopper’s pass was deflected at the line by Trinity senior linebacker, Brock Spiker.

Then, Montour was able to get the ball back on an interception from senior Daniel Batch, as the rain started to pick up.

Batch gave Montour a 14-7 lead shortly after. He lined up in the backfield, took the handoff and ran down the right sideline to put Montour on top with only 2:40 left in the game.

Trinity got to Montour’s 29 yard line before using their final timeout with 41 seconds left. After three incompletions, Montour senior linebacker Kaleb Platz sealed the deal with an interception. Montour kneeled, and the game was over.

Montour improves to 2-0, with last week’s game against Moon being a no contest. Next Friday, they host Knoch. The Hillers fall to 1-2 and will travel to Peters Township next Friday.
