NAZARETH- Arguably, the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference from top to bottom may the premier league in the state. Friday night at Andrew S. Leh Stadiumtwo of those teams met, but only one will survive to stay unbeaten after two games. The Nazareth Blue Eagles, playing at home, before a standing-room-crowd only came out on top 28-10 to match the only other 6A unbeaten- Emmaus who survived a close shave with Allentown Central Catholic.

It did not start well for the Blue Eagles as Parkland grabbed an early 7-0 lead after just four plays, when quarterback Luke Spang found Trey Tremba behind the defense for a 63 yard scoring play with only 1:56 off the clock.

Nazareth’s defnse then caught a big break with the Trojans backed up against the end zone, Spang fumbled the ball attempting a pass. Sean Kinney, was johhny on the spot and recovered the loose ball in the end zone to tie the game at 7.

The Blue Eagles then grabbed the lead, which they would not relinquish, when Mason Kuehner took a handoff went to his left, could not find an opening, so he cut back right and snuck in the corner of the end zone and a 14-7 with PAT with 4:47 left till have..

Parkland did manage to get a 43 yard field goal right before half to cut the deficit to 14-10 at intermission.

The second half belonged to Nazareth as Sasso, who threw for 193 yards and the two scores first hooked up with Nolan Lobb from 40 yards with 8:32 left in the quarter to make 21-10.

Then with 4:08 left in the third quarter Sasso found Frankie Mroz, open in the corner near the pylon fora 21 yard score. That would conclude the scxoring for the contest.

Falzone has a record now 53-37 going into his ninth season at Nazareth, he coached at Catasauqua, where he was 47-18 and currently 53-37 with Nazareth. Here is what he had to say after this huge win:

The path to an EPC title is a difficult one with now 2-0 Nazareth will host Bethlehem Catholic(1-1) as the Golden Hawks will be at home Saturday with Pocono Mountain West. The Konkrete Kids (1-1) will be on the road at Bethlehem Freedom(1-1) a 33-20 winner over Easton (0-2).

Here is Tom Falzone’s thoughts after the game and on his 100th win.
