North Allegheny Roll Past McDowell, Winning 41-7

On the opening play of the game, North Allgheny’s Khiryn Boyd put North Allegheny in excellent field position thanks to his 73-yard kickoff return that put North Allegheny at the McDowell 15-yard line. North Allegheny put up 6 on the scoreboard two plays later when quarterback Logan Kushner ran it in and gave North Allegheny a 7-0 lead just 1:34 into the contest. McDowell would quickly get the ball and quickly give it back to North Allegheny as North Allegheny forces a three and out on McDowell. North Allegheny started their second drive of the night at their 38-yard line and North Allegheny would add to their lead in just one play thanks to a 67-yard touchdown pass from Logan Kushner to wide receiver Khiryn Boyd and gave North Allegheny a 14-0 lead with 8:28 seconds left of the first quarter. McDowell’s offense continued to struggle on their next drive and rather quickly gave the ball back to North Allegheny. North Allegheny moved down the field and ended the drive with a 29-yard touchdown to wide receiver Evan Lyon to give North Allegheny a 21-0 lead with 2:59 left to go of the first quarter.

McDowell still struggled in their next drive going three and out. North Allegheny continued to put the pressure on in their next drive ending their drive rather quickly with a 42-yard touchdown pass to Evan Lyon to get his second touchdown of the game and giving North Allegheny a 28-0 lead with 11:39 left to go of the second quarter. McDowell continued to move the ball nowhere, quickly punting the ball back to North Allegheny. North Allegheny adds to their lead very quickly as wide receiver Khiryn Boyd scores his second touchdown of the game and gives North Allegheny a 35-0 lead with over eight minutes to play still in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, McDowell’s offense controlled almost the entirety of the quarter, opening the second half with a drive that put them at North Allegheny’s 25-yard line. McDowell sent out kicker Alex Sontheimer for a field goal attempt, but the ball landed short and North Allegheny took over on downs with a 35-0 lead and a minute left to go of the third quarter.

North Allegheny’s offense was stopped as the quarters changed to the fourth quarter by McDowell, making North Allegheny punt for the first time in the game. McDowell’s offense marched their way down the field and scored on a one-yard run by running back Stephon Porter to make it a 35-7 North Allegheny lead with 8:43 left in the game.

North Allegheny punted the ball back to McDowell on their next drive, but not after killing some clock. McDowell’s offense moved the ball into North Allegheny territory but made a costly fumble getting recovered by North Allegheny right at midfield. North Allegheny ran the ball the whole way down to the McDowell four-yard line where running Luke Rohan would run it in for the score. The extra point was missed but North Allegheny extended their lead to 41-7 with only 24 seconds left of the game. McDowell killed the rest of the clock, ending this game with a North Allegheny 41-7 win over McDowell.

North Allegheny will move on to the West Semifinals in the PIAA playoffs and will take on Harrisburg either on December 1st or 2nd.

McDowell finished with a 10-4 record over the season and playoffs and will start looking ahead to the 2024 season.
