MILTON – A plethora of penalties is probably not something that you would expect from an All-Star game, but that’s exactly what went down in this year’s District 4 all star game. However, this game also brought us a plethora of offense and scoring, leading to a very entertaining game. Powered by a four touchdown performance from Danny Dowell, the North Team overcame a 22-8 first quarter deficit to win in a 44-36 shootout.

For a game that has no true meaning considering that it is a stand alone contest, it’s hard to believe that when it was all said and done the game featured a total of 27 penalties for 225 combined yards, including an ejection at halftime. “We were killing ourselves with those penalties,” said Danny Dowell after the game. “We knew we needed to figure that out so we could get our offense rolling. We had a long, loud talk about [the penalties] in the locker room.”

It wasn’t until the second quarter that we saw the North team’s offense get on a roll, scoring only one touchdown in the first quarter from Christian Banks, and turning over once as well. Monty Fisher scored twice in the first quarter, once on a reception from Kaiden Maurer and once on a 5 yard run that capped off the scoring in the opening frame. Wyatt Brosious also took a score in of his own for the South team, after taking over at quarterback over Kaiden Maurer.

Dowell began the scoring for the North team in the each of the following frames, scoring on carries of 13 yards, 1 yard, and 53 yards. Entering the second quarter, the North team found themselves in a 22-8 deficit. From the second to midway through the third quarter, the North team scored 22 unanswered points of their own, putting them ahead 30-22. Jalil Coates got the second of those three touchdowns, the other two of course belonging to Dowell.

Wyatt Brosious and Landen Murray connected for scores twice in the second half. In the third quarter, Brosious found Murray from 19 yards out to tie the score up at 30, giving us an even contest heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter featured Dowell’s third and fourth touchdowns of the night, his previously mentioned 53 yard scramble gave the North team a 36-30 lead with just over 7 minutes to go. Brosious’ second connection with Murray came just 2 minutes after Dowell’s third touchdown, this connection from 63 yards out, evening the score again at 36. The final blow came on Dowell’s 4 yard touchdown carry with 43 seconds left, sealing a 44-36 win for the North Team.

“I couldn’t have scripted a better way for my high school career to end,” Dowell said after the game. “A game like this means everything to me, I’m so glad that I did this considering I was on the fence a little bit. It was the best decision ever, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.”

Dowell’s four touchdown performance earned him the Russ Manney Most Outstanding Player Award, finishing the game with 171 passing yards and 127 rushing yards. Dowell who played quarterback for Loyalsock in his senior year, will be moving on next season to play safety at Bloomsburg University in 2o26.
