The Northern Cambria Colts use Ty Dumms impressive night to defeat the Conemaugh Township Indians with a final score of 41-22.
After a competitive first half, Northern Cambria exploded for four touchdowns in the first 14 minutes of the second half. Three of which came from senior quarterback Ty Dumm, who led the Colts to victory by accounting for five touchdowns.
“It was a team effort,” stated Northern Cambria Coach Sam Shutty. “Getting Ty Dumm going was big. At halftime we talked about some things that were working and Ty was giving a lot of input. Our line was responding to what we needed to do.”
Northern Cambria got on the board first with a drive led by Dumm. He accounted for 90 total yards, which was capped off by a pass to Daniel Farrell for a 19 yard touchdown. Conemaugh Township responded later with a drive of their own, which was led by junior running back Brennan Lohr. He accounted for 39 yards on the ground before punching it in from a yard out.
After a few defensive stops, the Colts once again put together a drive, but was topped off with a backwards pass from Dumm to lineman Ben Messina.
Right before the half, the Indians launched a deep ball that was picked off by Colts defensive back Nate Fry, to close out the first half with a Northern Cambria lead of 13-7.
The Colts would add another two interceptions after that, one of which coming right out of the half from Dumm, for a 46 yard pick-six.
“That turnover was on me,” Conemaugh Township Coach Brandon Studer explained. “I’ve got to make a better play call in that situation. That’s not the players, that’s me.”
The Colts got another stop and scored again on a two yard run from Nate Fry to extend the lead to 27-7
Lohr responded with a 63 yard run, putting the Indians at the goaline and two plays later, punched it in for a three yard touchdown. Lohr finished the night with two rushing touchdowns and 142 rushing yards.
“The kids a machine,” Coach Studer said. “He’s not big, but he‘s full of heart and he’s gonna give it to you 100 percent every time he touches the football. He’s explosive and I think that’s the first time we’ve rushed for over a hundred yards in a couple years.”
Dumm closed out the Colts scoring on the night with a seven yard rushing touchdown and an 11 yard passing touchdown to Caleb Dolney.
Dumm finished with 207 rushing yards, 124 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdowns, and a pick-six.
“I just think he’s (Dumm) that guy that wants the ball,” Coach Shutty said. “When he gets the ball, special things happen. It’s one of those things where we wanna make that happen as much as we can and utilize everyone around him as much as we can as well.”
The last touchdown of the night came from freshman Cayden Dail, who ran it in from six yards out.
Northern Cambria improves to 7-1 and will get ready to host River Valley. Conemaugh Township dropped to 3-5 and will travel to Conemaugh Valley.
“We are looking to keep getting better every week,” Coach Studer commented. “Hopefully we will be playing our most physical, best football in middle-to-late October.”
