Mountain Road Rumble Contest Thursday night was dominated by Northwest Lehigh in Shutout Fashion.

NEW TRIPOLI- The opening two weeks for the Northwestern Lehigh Tigers has been nothing short of being sensational. Last week it was a 49-6 rout of Tamaqua on the road. Thursday night the faced rivals Northhern Lehigh Bulldogs in the Mountain Road Rumble, and again the Tigers were clicking on all phases of the game: offense, defense and special teams in a 48-0 win before a packed house on a perfect night for football.

The Bulldogs received the opening kickoff, but could only muster just one first down and were forced to punt. The Tigers went on a eleven play drive culminating in a three yard Shane Leh touchdown with 5:07 left in the opening quarter and a 7-0 lead.

Nprthern Leigh struggled on each of their next three times they had the ball and were forced to punt, then Eli Zimmerman had a 41 yard punt return to the Bulldog two. Dalton Clymar would then find the end zone easily for a Tiger touchdown and a 13-0 with missed the PAT.

The next time the Tigers had the ball a fantastic screen pass when quarterback Mason Bollinger hooked up with Landen Matson for a 39 yard score and a 20-0 second quarter lead.

Backup quarterback for the Bulldogs Garrett Smoyer was harassed all night by the tenacious Tiger defense. A defense that had four sacks and ten tackles for loss. The Bulldogs were held to under 30 yards of offense for the game. Smoyer took over for Ayden Oswakd, as he had a season ending injury in Catasauqua game last weekend.

Bollinger then extended the lead to 27-0 with 5:24 left till have on a four yard score. Bollinger ran the ball five times for 34 yards and two scores in the contest. Clymer converted the two-point conversion.

Northester took the second half kickoff and proceeded to drive the ball deep into Bulldogs territory to put the game into running clock mode when Bollinger rumbled in from 16 yards and a Devon Hildebrand 2 point conversion was good for a 35-0 lead.

Dalton Clymer, who gained 106 yards in the game on 14 touches scored his second touchdown on a 16 yard score and a 42-0 with 5:44 still left in the third quarter.

Northwestern’s last score of the night was when Brady Zimmermn cashed in from three yards out with just under three minutes left in the game.

Northwestern improved to 2-0 now and will be back on the road next week against Blue Mountain. The Eagles opened up last week with a 35-0 victory over Jim Thorpe and will be at North Schuylkill Friday night. The 0-2 Bulldogs will try to get their initial win over the season Friday at home with Pen Argyl.
