Green Knights defense swarmed the Falcons offense all afternoon long on a soggy Saturday up on the hill.

PEN ARGYL- Consistency is what teams strive for as the season progresses in the Colonial/Schuylkill league this time of year with just a few weeks left in the regular season. For the Green Knights of Pen Argyl. Last week losing a late lead to Palisades and back earlier in the season they lost a lead to Northern Lehigh.

They were not about to let it happen again, especially on homecoming Saturday-despite the rain.

The defense held Salisbury to just 135 yards of total offense and harassed quarterback Andrew Lucas all afternoon, sacking the signal caller seven times, including five by Nuallen King alone in a hard-fought 21-3 win before a boisterous crowd at Alumni Stadium on a soggy wet afternoon. Lucas also threw three interceptions in the contest.

Pen Argyl got on the scoreboard first on their opening drive with an impressive nine play 58 yard march capped off by an eleven yard run by quarterback Mason Soos powering his way to the end zone for a 7-0 lead that took 4:41 off the clock. The Knights converted on a fourth-and-eight with a 16 yard pass from Soos to A.J Sora to keep the drive alive near midfield.

The Green Knight defense stepped up on the initial Falcons drive as King sacked Lucas on a fourth down attempt. Salisbury got the ball right back as Soos’s pass was picked off by Dominic Natosi. Another sack of Lucas on third down play forced the only punt of the game by either side.

Pen Argyl started the drive from the Salisbury 38, facing a fourth down from the fourteen, Soos tossed a simple screen pass to Caiden Foust who found his way into the end zone for a 14-0 lead with 4:37 to go before halftime.

On the ensuing Salisbury drive, following another sack of Lucas by King, Foust stepped in front of a pass and took it to the house from 37 yards making it 21-0 as the game reached intermission.

Salisbury tried to get back into the game in the second half, but defensive back for Pen Argyl Lucas Lerch picked off two of the Falcons passes on consecutive drives. The only points Salisbury could muster was a Josh Hudock 28 yard field goal. Lucas was sacked by King for a 22 yard loss, but a personal foul was called on the home team for targeting continued the drive culminating in Hudock’s kick.

“Our kids came ready to play today. We had the right game plan for what they showed. We really didn’t change anything this week. All we did is played hrad today.” Pen Argyl Coach Brady Mutton said afterwards.

The Green Knights (3-3) will be back at home next Saturday to face Notre Dame Green Pond (5-1). The Crusaders topped Northern Lehigh 49-19 Friday night. Salisbury (3-3) will try to get back into the win column at home with (5-1) Saucon Valley. The Panthers decimated Catasauqua Friday to the tune of 62-14.
