Aliquippa v. Selinsgrove, Friday

December 1st, 7PM @ Central Cambria High School

How they got here: 4A Bracket HERE

2023 Pennsylvania Football Playoff Brackets

The Quips escaped the WPIAL with another Class 4A championship over the McKeesport Tigers. Aliquippa most of the season has been a second-half team but late season and in the playoffs, they have been a first-half team. The Quips scored 21 points in the first half, where McKeesport scored 14 to send it into half a one-score game. Aliquippa got the second-half kickoff and drove down the field to score another touchdown to make it a 27-14 game after a failed extra-point attempt. Holding the Tigers to only seven second-half points the Quips went on to win the 4A championship 35-21.

Keys on Offense:

Aliquippa is heading into this game with quarterback Quentin Goode who has thrown for over 1,700 yards and 23 TDs. Another side of things is the run game, with Aliquippa’s Tiqwai Hayes. Hayes has rushed for over 1,700 yards, averages 6.8 yards per carry and has 21 total TDs this season. Lastly in the receiving game, has seven players with 100+ yards receiving and is lead by Brandon Banks. Banks entering Friday has 450+. receiving yards averaging 23 yards a catch and three TDs. With Aliquippa being a ground-and-pound team, they will have to open up the playbook more against this Selinsgrove team.

Keys on Defense:

On the defensive side, the Quips have eight games where the defense allowed 19 or less points, including one shutout. So far since beginning the playoffs the Quips are also allowing 24.6 points per game and on the season only 15.5. When playing with an offense that is scoring just under 40 points per game that is a great stat to have on your side. Cam Lindsey is the leader on this defense and can wreak havoc.

Wrap:

Aliquippa will need the full playbook against Selinsgrove on Friday night. Selinsgrove beat the Quip’s 2021-22 PIAA semi-final opponent in their district championship to make the state playoffs. Selinsgrove beat the Juniata Indians by a score of 44-14 to advance. Aliquippa and Selinsgrove will face off Friday, December 1st at 7 p.m., at Central Cambria High School.
