Pine-Richland lineman Joshua Nindl announced May 24th his commitment to the University of Pittsburgh as a preferred walk-on.
Nindl is the fifth lineman to commit to the team this year, including Shep Turk, who comes from fellow WPIAL school Thomas Jefferson. He said the program reached out to him May 14th, which was a surprise to him.
“[Adam Caltury, Pitt director of recruiting] messaged me on Twitter [now known as X] and said call me. That was out of nowhere and was a big surprise but the fact that he wanted me to call him was when I knew what it was.”
Nindl said he then visited the university on May 16th, where he met with head coach Pat Narduzzi and offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau.
“I was really impressed by how much time they gave me and their transparency,” Nindl said. “The coaches were authentic and they said they could see a fit for me on the team, and I believe them.”
Nindl has contributed to the Rams offensive and defensive lines since 2022, helping the Rams win two WPIAL championships in 2022 and 2024 along with a state championship in 2022. The 2024 championship was played at Acrisure Stadium, the same location as where Pitt’s home games are, but Nindl said he never expected to be going back there less than a year later; this time as a part of the Panthers.
“We (Pine-Richland) had some success last time we played there so I hope to keep that going into college,” Nindl said.
Nindl was a key part of that success, along with his fellow lineman who have gotten similarly high recognition for their contribution. This includes 2023 graduate Ryan Cory, now a member of the Wisconsin Badgers, fellow senior Jackson Bojanic-Hubbell, a commit to Division II school California University of Pennsylvania who made Big 56’s 5A all-conference first team and was selected for PSFCA’s Big 33 game, junior John Curran III, who was named to PaFootballNews’ 1st Team All-State this year and has 8 Division 1 FBS offers, and junior Braylen Price, who committed to Division 1 FCS school William and Mary May 20th. Nindl credits the high recognition to offensive line coach Mike Mackowick.
“Coach Mack doesn’t get enough credit for what he does,” Nindl said. “I love him and can’t speak highly enough of him. Our o-line owes all our success to him.”
Nindl also made the 2024 Big 56 All-Conference Northeast Second Team and was a part of the PSFCA’s West team for their East-West game which was held May 18th. He was one of two Pine-Richland players selected along with Rams kicker Grant Argiro, who has signed with Colgate University.
Nindl said that while he’s excited to get the opportunity, the work has just begun.
“This is just the start. I’m done with recruiting but now it’s time for college ball. I’m super excited.”
