Game was resumed after lightning caused a postponement.

BRODHEADSVILLE- It took nearly 92 hours to complete, but a decision was rendered Monday afternoon as the Bears of Pleasant Valley posted a 14-12 victory over East Stroudsburg South Monday afternoon in a key Eastern Pennsylvania Conference North Division game.

The game began at 8pm Thursday night, after an hour lightning delay, however more lightning was spotted with 1:48 left in the first half with the score tied at 6. The decision was made to pick up the game at that point Monday afternoon.

Thursday the first quarter went scoreless, then the teams exchanged touchdowns in the second quarter as quarterback Valentino Byers-Richardson scampered in from 30 yards out with 5:20 left in the half, the PAT was no good for 6-0 lead.

The Cavaliers answered right back by going on a 67 yard march on 4 plays that was capped by a 41 yard run by Nathan Gray to tie the score at 6 as their PAT was no good at the 3:33 mark.

Then the lightning and delay hit.

When play resumed Monday it was the Bears ball at the Cavs 40 but the drive stalled inside the red zone, but South could not do anything on their possession and we went into a two minute half tied at 6.

Like the first quarter Thursday neither team could score in the third stanza.

The fourth quarter was a battle of attrition as a couple 4th down attempts came up short and each team turned the ball over at crucial times to keep the score knotted up.

Pleasant Valley struck first as they managed to move deep in scoring position, when from ten yards out Alex Ecker got across the goal line and he converted the two-point conversion to make it 14-6 with 9:13 left.

East Stroudsburg South had an answer as they took the kickoff and returned it to their 41. A 28 yard run by Nathan Gray set the Cavaliers up first and goal from the one. Charles Capers took a direct snap and fought his way to a score to bring his team to within two with 7:08 left, but the conversion was snuffed out by the swarming Bear defens to keep the score 14-12.

The Bears fumbled the ball back to South on the first play of their next possession at the Bears 35 but the Cavs could not take advantage as a penalty set them back then an errant pass was picked off by Hunter Scheffner.

Pleasant Valley turned ball back to South after a catch and run by a Bear receiver the ball was jarred loose and the Cavaliers found themselves with another chance to score, but again the Bear defense stepped up and got a stop.

East Stroudsburg South would get one more chance to get the win as they took over deep inside their own territory but a deep bomb by Richardson was picked off by Dakoda Lucas to seal the deal.

Coach Blaec Saegar stated “I knew this bunch would come ready to play, I don’t need to get them out of bed Saturday. I knew these kids would be ready.” When asked about what preparation went into the weekend,

Pleasnt Valley improves to 2-1 and now will face William Allen (0-3) Friday at J. Birney Crum Stadium in Allentown. East Stroudsburg South drops to 1-2 and will be back at home in the “Purple Pit” to face Pocono Mountain West (1-2} Friday.
