Protime Predictions (Protime’s Likes)

| November 17, 2022

Protime got a little advice on his advice column last week.  People liked it and want to hear more.  So, Protime will do another one, but not this week.  Protime likes it when people say they like his columns or like him.  Mrs. Protime only likes it when people say they like his column.  Protime told her that people also like his tweets on Twitter and that Protime sometimes likes other people’s tweets.  Mrs. Protime wanted to know if Protime knows these people.  Protime said some he does and some he does not and some he doesn’t know if he knows.  Mrs. P then said that Protime should know he probably shouldn’t be liking people’s tweets that he doesn’t know.  The lovely Mrs. P should know because she knows a lot.

One other thing Protime likes is predicting high school football games.  He seems to know how to predict those games, especially the ones he covers each week.  No one can out prognosticate the ole prognosticator.  He is rarely perfect, there are always games that his crystal ball miscalculates or his trusty coin erroneously comes up on the wrong side of the outcome.  But, Protime shrugs it off and moves on hoping to come up with a perfect prediction for each game.  Speaking of which, here are this week’s picks by your fascinatingly famous favorite football forecaster who went 20-5 last week and is now 229-78 (.746) for the year.

McDowell 10-2 @ State College 11-0 – Protime will be attending this blockbuster of a game featuring a pair of great running backs.  McDowell’s Artis Simmons has meandered the field for 1,838 yards and 27 TDs.  State College’s D’antae Sheffey has traversed his way to 1,428 yards and 19 TDs.  McDowell’s Trojans have a pretty darn good kicker in Alex Sontheimer.  He’s a difference maker.  QB Ben Moore has thrown for 1,635 yards and 20 touchdowns for the visitors.  His favorite receiver is Ray Jackson, who has 50 catches for 675 yards and 10 TDs.  Troy Peterson is a mainstay on defense for the Trojans.  The Little Lions counter with a good quarterback and a pair of wide receiver threats.  QB Finn Furmanek has 1,302 yards passing with 13 TDs.  WR Donte Nastasi has 43 grabs for 500 yards and 4 TDs, while Ty Salazer has hauled down 24 passes for 539 yards and 5 TDs.  Mike Gaul and John Scott have over 100 tackles for the Little Lion defense.  Salazer has picked off 5 passes.  Protime is going with St. College because he thinks they played a bit tougher schedule.  Lions 24 Trojans 20.

Downingtown East 9-3 @ Garnet Valley 11-0 – This has all the makings of a phenomenal football game.  RB Bo Horvath leads the East Cougars with 2,181 yards rushing and 30 touchdowns.  QB Jamy Jenkins has over 1,00 yards throwing with 9 TDs.  He has only one INT for the year.  WR Caden Walsh has 23 catches for 466 yards and 3 scores to top the Cougar receivers.  The Jaguars are a running team also.  Jason Bernard has 722 yards and 12 TDs.  Joe Checcio has scored 11 TDs on the ground.  QB Matt Mesaros is two yards shy of 1,100 passing.  He has thrown 15 TD passes and has no interceptions thrown to date.  WR Drew Van Horn leads with 459 yards and 8 scores.  Logan Hamilton is top cat on defnse for the Jags.  A coin flip has Downingtown East winning 20-17.

McKeesport 11-1 vs. Aliquippa 10-0 @ Canon-MacMillan – Ooooweee, we got a good one here.  The Tigers and the Quips part 2.  Last year it took 2 overtimes for Aliquippa to come out the victor.  They went on to win the 4A crown at Hershey.  McKeesport is run heavy and uses what they call the flex-bone.  QB Jahmil Perryman has 1,341 yards rushing and scored 22 touchdowns.  (He’s only passed for 5 TDs.)  Bobbie Boyd has 1,106 yards on the ground and has scored 12 times.  Larry Gibson has over 500 yards and 8 TDs.  Aliquippa is more balanced.  QB Quentin Goode has passed for 1,586 yards and 17 TDs.  Donovan Walker has snared 29 passes for 521 yards and 4 TDs.  WR Brandon Brooks has caught 6 TD passes.  RB Tiqwai Hayes has galloped for 1,468 yards and 25 TDs, while John Tracy has 8 touchdowns on the ground.  Protime’s crystal ball says take the Quips to beat the Tigers 28-23.

Lampeter-Strasburg 9-2 @ Manheim Central 10-1 – Here is a good match-up in District 3.  The Pioneers are led by QB Trenton Wagner who has 1,476 yards passing with 20 TDs.  RB Carson Coleman has 1,042 yards and 18 scores.  WR Hunter Hildenbrand has snared 31 passes for 742 yards and 10 touchdowns.  On defense for the Pioneers of Lampeter-Strasburg, Hildenbrand has 6 INTs, and Harry Wolgemuth and Jackson Heeter lead the team in tackles.  Manheim’s Barons are led by QB Zac Hahn.  He has pitched the pigskin for 2,047 yards and 27 touchdowns.  Two receivers have been doing a lot of damage.  They are Bode Sipel and Aaron Enterline.  Enterline has 34 grabs for 901 yards and 11 TDs, while Sipel has 38 caught passes for 598 yards and 7 TDs.  RB Brycen Armold has scored 31 touchdowns while racing for 1,973 yards.  Nick Haas and Jaden Weit are the top tacklers for the Barons.  Manheim Central 38 Lampeter-Strasburg 28.

Penns Valley 10-2 @Bishop Guilfoyle 9-3 – There are two dominating quarterbacks in this game.  Jackson Romig of Penns Valley has 2,011 yards throwing the rock and 26 TD tosses.  Guilfoyle’s Karson Kiesewetter has thrown for 1,593 yards and run for 1,269.  He’s passed for 15 touchdowns and scored 25 vis the run.  For the Penns Valley Rams, WR Miles Brooks has hauled down 51 passes for 875 yards and 13 TDs.  RB Ty Watson keeps defenses honest as he has dashed for 1,286 yards and 23 touchdowns.  Caleb Confer leads the Rams in tackles.  Guilfoyle’s Cooper Rother can run and catch.  The Marauder has 743 yards running the agate with 10 TDs and he has caught 40 passes for 507 yards.  Kaden Wyandt has 121 tackles for the Marauder ‘D’ and Anthony Cioffari has 109.  Guilfoyle 24 Penns Valley 22.

Southern Columbia 9-3 @ Mt. Carmel 12-0 – Earlier this year Mt. Carmel bested So. Columbia 35-21, since then the Tigers are averaging 54 points a game.  Southern’s offense is led by two quality running backs in Braedon Wisloski and Wes Barnes.  Wisloski has 1,362 yards carrying the ball and has scored 19 touchdowns.  Barnes, in 7 games, has 726 yards and 10 TDs.  Blake Wise has thrown for 717 yards and a half dozen scores.  On defense, Dominic Fetterolf has over 100 tackles to date.  The Red Tornadoes average 45 points a game with various individuals contributing which is a sign opponents can’t key on one guy.  In 9 games, QB Cole Spears has 1,055 yards passing with 12 TD tosses.  RB Xavier Diaz has 914 yards rushing with 13 TDs.  RB Luke Blessing has 631 yards and 14 scores.  WR Jacob Schultz has 474 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns, while WR Garrett Varano has 462 yards and 5 TDs with 31 catches.  On defense, Varano has 6 picks of 22 total to lead in that department.  Maddox Reed has 107 tackles for the Red Tornadoes.  In a game that goes down to the wire, Mt. Carmel 29 Southern Columbia 28.

Windber 11-1 @ Steelton-Highspire 10-1 – What a contrast in offenses!  Windber runs and doesn’t throw much, and Steelton throws and doesn’t run much.  John Shuster leads the devastating Rambler ground game with 2,613 yards and has scored 37 touchdowns.  He averages 13.2 yards a carry.  The rest of the team has 1,700 yards and 32 TDs on the ground.  Bryson Costa has nailed 56 PATs, pretty close to automatic.  Blake Klosky and Jake Hostetler lead the Windber defense in tackles.  The Steamroller QB, Alex Erby, has thrown for 2,411 yards and 33 TDs.  He has only thrown 3 interceptions, and only 1 since the first week.  Speaking of the first week, both teams were at the Peach Bowl Classic in Chambersburg.  Maybe they scouted each other.  WR Durrell Ceasar has caught 54 passes for 979 yards and 14 TDs.  WR Jaeion Perry has 31 grabs for 541 yards and 9 scores.  Eugene Green is the top tackler for the Steamrollers.  It won’t be easy, but Steelton prevails 26-21.

Northern Lehigh 11-1 vs. Lackawanna Trail 8-4 @ Dunmore – The NoLeHi Bulldogs are led by their dual threat quarterback, Nick Frame, who has passed for 1,056 yards and scrambled for 923 more.  He’s tossed 10 TD passes and ran for 8.  RB A.J. Jimenez-Wittong has rushed for 764 yards and scored 13 TDs.  WR Austin Smyth had 429 yards in receptions and has grabbed 5 touchdown passes.  On defense, the Bulldogs are led by Jimenez-Wittong in tackles and Frame who has 6 interceptions.  The Lions of L.T. are led by RB Lukas Gumble with his 850 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns scored.  QB Stephen Jervis has 584 yards passing with 9 TD tosses.  Max Kimmel has 4 INTs for the Lion defense.  Protime has Northern Lehigh as the victor 45-30.

St. Joes Prep 31 Northeast 14 – The Hawks are once again primed for a state title run.  Next victim, the Vikings of NE.

Westinghouse 44 Central Clarion 20 – Double A’s #2 team, the Westinghouse Bulldogs are too much for the Wildcats of Central Clarion.
