GRSN Game of the Week
D6 2A Semi-Finals Marion Center Stingers (8-3) at Richland Rams (9-2)
Common Opponent
United Valley
@MC 34-0 10/25: MC PF 24.2 PA 10.6
@Richland 37-12 11/1: RR PF 33.8 PA 15.1
In a battle of David versus Goliath the visiting Stingers took on the powerful Rams. The Rams dressed twice as many players and had 6 players over 220 as opposed to one for the Stingers. The Stingers were looking to win a second playoff game in the same season for the first time. The Rams were looking for another shot at D6 title. I worn pants for the first time this year. I have probably been to 10-12 games at Richland. It’s a great place to play. The Rams always have a good team, coach Bailey is always entertaining and the people there are first rate. But the wind also always seems to be at gale force. Tonight was no different. The wind which was about 22 mph was constant and a factor in the outcome.
1st Quarter (Rams with the wind)
Richland got the ball first and drove 58 yards in just over three minutes mixing short passes and runs. Joe McAneny scored the games first touchdown with a six yard run.

Marion Center would drive 80 yards in seven and a half minutes to answer the Rams, the PAT was blocked.

2nd Quarter (Stingers with the wind)
Richland would continue their second drive from the first quarter and score. The 47 yard drive took three and a half minutes. Freshmen quarterback Jake Regan threw the first of his three touchdowns and Joe McAneny scored his second.

The Stingers would drive 75 yards in four minutes getting chunk plays and Drew Runk would get his second touchdown of the night. Runk would dive over on the two point conversion to tie it at 14-14.

The Stingers tried to go to the air but were forced to punt when the Rams defense held and they used their timeouts. But Cam Rising helped the Stingers go into half only down seven with a 75 yard punt. It was 21-14 Rams at half and all offense.
3rd Quarter (Stingers with the wind)
Richland kicked into the wind and the ball just held up. The Stingers let it drop and it bounced back towards Richland who recover. It turned out to be the play of the game. To this point Richland had not been able to stop Marion Center. The Rams would hold the ball for nine minutes out of 12 in the quarter. The Stingers had the ball only one time and were forced to punt. Rising had another great punt. Coach Bailey would make two big decisions in the final minutes of the third quarter. On fourth and inches from their 26 they went for it and made it. three plays later it was fourth and 10 from their own 28. not wanting to punt into the wind, they rolled Regan who threw a perfect pass for the first down. The drive continued as the quarter ended.
4th Quarter (Rams with the wind)
On another fourth down Regan hits Jamere Christian for a 45 yard touchdown.

The game was over Marion Center could not move the ball through the air going into the wind and didnt have time to drive the field. They would turn it over on downs and the Rams would throw another long touchdown. The final score was 35-14. The season is over for Marion Center and a great core of nine seniors. I would like to thank the Marion Center coaches, boosters, players and fans would allowing me to come along on a great ride. The Rams go back to Mansion Park for another D6 Championship. I would also like to thank everyone from Richland for a first class evening.
