MOON TWP, PA – The Robert Morris Colonials picked up their first win of the season Saturday, defeating Mercyhurst 55-28.

Both the Colonials and Lakers entered the matchup looking to bounce back following nail-biting losses. Robert Morris fell last week to Edinboro 23-21, with Mercyhurst coming up short against Howard 32-31.

Robert Morris quarterback Anthony Chiccitt had a career-high game, going 19-25 with 307 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Colonials would strike early, going 75-yards on their first drive, capped off by a 14-yard touchdown pass to Noah Robinson. Mercyhurst was looking to respond, but a Seth Verilus interception on the first pass of the game would set the Colonials up deep. DJ Moyer powered 3-yards into the end zone, extending the Colonial lead to 14-0. Following a fourth down stop in Robert Morris territory, the Colonials would march down the field yet again. Chiccitt would find Chaz Middleton on a slant for the 5-yard touchdown score, making it 21-0.

Mercyhurst’s offense would finally find their footing, scoring 14 points on their next two possessions. However, just as it felt like the momentum was switching in the Lakers’ favor, a 63-yard touchdown reception from Noah Robinson would silence the Mercyhurst faithful. Trenell Ridgley would join the scoring party with a 17-yard touchdown, making it 34-14 at the half. The Colonials and Lakers would both extend their scores in the second half, but Mercyhurst would fall short.

Robert Morris will be on the road next week in another conference matchup, this time against Wagner. Mercyhurst will travel to Montana State, to take on the undefeated Bobcats.
