The Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes pulled out a close win against the Pen Argyl Green Knights as the rain poured Saturday afternoon. Both teams had one score from their quarterback and two scores by their running back, respectively.

Damian Tyminski and Brad Rissmiller started the game off with two big runs to set their Knights up in scoring position. Tyminski finished the drive off with a 1-yard score. The Knights then completed a two-point conversion attempt with Mason Soos reaching the endzone. The Hurricanes had no scoring success in the first quarter do to a strong Knight defense, but Adam Balulis recovered a fumble, giving the Hurricanes possession to start the second.

Schuylkill Haven did score with quarterback Augustus Warke sneaking into the endzone. Their two-point conversion attempt was called off. They were able to recover with strong defensive efforts, including a blocked punt from Carestia. Aidan Clauser ran for 7 yards and Carestia finished what he started by running the last seven yards into the endzone. Another two-point conversion was ruled unsuccessful, but they headed into the locker room with a lead of 12-8.

No scoring occurred in the third quarter, but the Hurricanes stayed aggressive with Blake Rossi recovering an onside kick, Clauser getting a sack in the backfield, and Wyatt Keefer racking up a few tackles.

The fourth quarter was by far the most entertaining with four lead changes. Tyminski reached the endzone to start off the scoring, but did not convert on the two-point attempt. This gave the Knights a two-point lead, but Carestia broke out for a run and scored for his Hurricanes. Aiden Myers then snagged the two points, giving the Canes the lead by 7. The Knights used the next six minutes to work downfield, Rissmiller scoring and Reid Kotulka nailing a crucial extra point. With the Hurricanes down 1, they managed to score within a minute. Niko Castillo had a huge catch to put his team in Knights’ territory. Carestia then ran 44 yards for a touchdown and completed the two-point conversion to seal the game. Schuylkill Haven’s defense held off the Knights for the remaining time and secured the victory. The Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes improve to 7-1 on the season, while the Pen Argyl Knights fall to 4-4.

Head Coach Mike Farr and his Hurricanes look to stay hot as they face Minersville on Friday, October 20th. Coach Brady Mutton and his Knights will play Panther Valley.
