Serra Catholic Eagles continue the momentum with dominant win over Cougars

The Yough Cougars (2-4) hosted the Serra Catholic Eagles (1-4) Friday night on Cougar Mountain. The Cougars enter the game coming off a big win against Ligonier Valley 21-0. The Eagles are also coming off a victory after defeating the Derry Area Trojans 27-12. Serra Catholic punished the Cougar’s defense to walk away with a 40-12 victory and increase their conference record to 2-1.

The Cougars optioned to receive after winning the coin toss. The Cougars after pounding the ball with a strong run game eventually got to the Eagle’s six yard line, where Cougar’s running back, Mikey Nogy, pounded it in to put the Cougars up. The Cougars led 6-0 after a missed field goal with 7:36 in the 1st Quarter.

 

The Cougar’s lead wouldn’t last long though. The Eagles quickly responded, when Eagle’s quarterback Quadir Stribling found wide receiver Chris Warren for a 47 yard touchdown. After a successful extra point, the Eagles took the lead from the Cougars 7-6.

 

The 2nd quarter was quiet for both teams until about halfway through where with about 6:20 left in the quarter, Eagle’s running back Mason Jones would pound in a short 1 yard touchdown to extend their lead to 14-6 after a successful extra point.

 

It didn’t take long for the Eagle’s to find the endzone again. Mason Jones would once again score on a short run in the redzone to extend the Eagle’s lead to 21-6 with 2:41 left in the 2nd quarter.

 

The Eagles continued the beatdown on the Cougar’s defense after Quadir Stribling would find one of his wide receivers for a 65 yard touchdown on the Eagle’s first play of the second half. The Eagles now lead the Cougars 27-6 with 11:51 left in the 3rd quarter after a Eagle’s missed extra point.

 

The Eagle’s, Jesere Young ran it in from 12 yards out to increase the Eagles lead to 33-6 after a blocked extra point with 7:24 left in the 3rd quarter.

 

The Eagles couldn’t stop finding themselves in the endzone. Stribling found Young at the end of the 3rd quarter for a 10 yard touchdown to make it 40-6.

 

The Cougars scored with 3:32 left in the 4th quarter after Antonio Mara got in the endzone for a rushing touchdown to make the score 40-12.

 

The Cougars fall to 2-5 and 1-3 in conference play. The Cougars travel to Spring Church next Friday to face the 1-6 Apollo Ridge Vikings in a Allegheny conference matchup. The Eagles improve to 2-4 and 2-1 in conference play. The Eagles travel to Ligonier next Friday in a conference matchup against the 2-5 Ligonier Valley Rams.
