NANTICOKE- On a night the Greater Nanticoke Area was honoring their former coach the late Dan Distacio, who led the team for twelve seasons racking up 96 wins and four championship teams in 1967, 1968, 1976 and 1977 by naming the new scoreboard, donated by the Distacio family, prior to Friday night’s game at Frank Chicknoski Field, but once the whistle blew, the game was dominated by the Shamokin Area Indians and running back Maximus Madden in route to a 40-13 over the Trojans on a muddy field.

Madden then got his first score of the night on their next possession on an 18 yard burst and Nye hit Aaron Frasch for the two-point conversion to make it 14-0 at the end of the quarter.

Nanticoke got on the board after Peyton Kepp picked off a Nye pass and returned it 59 yards to the Indians three yard line. Two plays later quarterback Seth Rymer converted a one yard score with 5:19 left till half making the score 14-6,

Shamokin then went on a 64 yard drive on their next possession with Madden finding the end zone from 11 yards out with 3:20 left on the clock and a 21-6 lead after Carson Ososkie making the PAT.

Then the Indians defense got in on the action on the Trojans second play of their ensuing drive as Brandon Haupt picked off a Rymer pass and dashed in from 32 yards out and a 28-6 lead and that score held up going into the locker room.

After another Nanticoke turnover on their opening drive of the second half, Madden went to work taking a 54 yard jaunt for another score and a 34-6 lead early in the third quarter.

Shamokin and Madden got their last points of the contest with 3:48 left in the third quarter as he scooted in from 10 yards out to make it 40-6.

Nanticoke not showing any quit got a late score by running back Zach Fox from a yard out to make the final margin 40-13 with 10:25 left in the contest.

Here is some of Maximus Madden’s thoughts on the game:
