INDIANA, PA – #9 Slippery Rock won a thrilling game against #21 Indiana (PA) Saturday afternoon.
In a deja-vu moment from last week, Slippery Rock got out to a huge lead before crumbling on both sides of the ball. The Rock got on the board on their first offensive possession of the game. Chris D’Or got the call on all five snaps in the drive, posting 34-yards on 5 attempts, capped off with a 3-yard rushing score. Early in the second quarter, they would extend their lead with a Kylon Wilson slant pass taken 72-yards to the house. Following a 3-and-out for the Crimson Hawks, Chris D’Or would power into the end zone, putting the Rock up 21-0.

Both teams would exchange punts, before the Crimson Hawks’ offense would finally find their footing. Karst Hunter found Marcus Day in the back of the end zone for the 2-yard strike, chipping at the deficit. IUP would get the ball back quickly following a Rock 3-and-out, and would threaten near the end zone. However, they would be forced to settle for the field goal with 3 seconds left in the half.
Heading to the middle of the third quarter, Karst Hunter would keep the ball and find the outside edge of the end zone, making it a 4 point game. Slippery Rock’s offense would look to respond, but a tipped screen pass intercepted on the 24-yard line set up IUP to take their first lead of the game. The Rock’s defense would stand tall, however, holding Indiana to another field goal. The Crimson Hawks defense would force another costly mistake by the Rock stripping a fumble from Brayden Long, giving the ball right back to the Hawks in SRU territory. Just 2 plays later, Hunter found Maurice Massey in the end zone, giving IUP their first lead of the day.
Something bout @MauriceMassey16 is just magical 🪄

Slippery Rock’s offense would finally wake up with a 17-play, 83-yard drive capped off by a tipped pass intended for Kam Kruzelyak caught on the deflection by Mike Solomon. Unfortunately for SRU, the Crimson Hawks offense would stay hot, scoring a touchdown of their own when Hunter found Hilton Ridley for the 10-yard score. 32-27 IUP with 1:31 left.
Back like he never left 😎

Slippery Rock would face a near impossible challenge, forced to go 75-yards in under 91 seconds, one timeout, and against the no. 21 team in the country. Slippery Rock’s offense was silent in the second half last week as well, before stepping up when it mattered most. That’s exactly what they would do again. Following a costly targeting call for the Hawks, on 1st and 10 at IUP’s 11-yard line, Brayden Long again found Mike Solomon, this time in the corner of the end zone for the touchdown.
FB: TOUCHDOWN!!! Brayden Long hits Mike Solomon in the back of the end zone with 12.9 seconds left! Chaos at Miller Stadium. SRU takes two excessive celebration penalties. 2 pt try is no good. SRU leads IUP 33-32 with 12.9 seconds left. IUP has all 3 timeouts. pic.twitter.com/S1kmspWYrG

Just when you thought it was finally over with only 13 seconds left, IUP marched the ball down the field to Slippery Rock’s 37-yard line. With 4 seconds remaining, IUP elected to try the 54-yard attempt for the win. However, as the time ran out on the scoreboard, the kick sailed wide right no good.
Slippery Rock will return home next Saturday when they host the 1-4 Gannon Golden Knights. Gannon is coming off their first win of the season after defeating Seton Hill 23-17. Indiana will hit the road next week when they take on 1-4 Edinboro. The Fighting Scots are coming off a bye week following a nail-biting 28-23 loss against Slippery Rock. The Scots only win thus far was in week two against DI Robert Morris.
