The Leopards received the ball in the first quarter, but there was a botched handoff exchange on their first offensive snap. This fumble set the Leopards back significantly and forced them to punt on their opening drive. The Lions then marched down the field and scored on their opening drive with a perfect pass from quarterback Drew Welhorsky, making it 7-0 early in the quarter. The Leopards punted the ball back to the Lions, who began another drive, but it was cut short by a pick-six from safety Kole Doppelheuer, evening the score at 7-7 with 9:05 remaining in the first quarter. This remained the score for the rest of the quarter, as both offenses stalled, and the Lions carried possession into the second quarter.

Carrying the ball into the second quarter, the Lions scored another touchdown, this time on a beautiful catch and run by Tyson Wright, making it 14-7 with 6:58 left in the first half. After another defensive stop, the Lions regained possession and scored again, this time on a designed quarterback run by Drew Welhorsky, increasing the lead to 21-7 with 3:21 remaining in the half. That would be the final score, as Belle Vernon managed to drive the ball into the red zone but failed to capitalize, keeping the score at 21-7 in favor of the Lions.

The third quarter was relatively quiet, with neither team scoring points. Both offenses stalled, keeping the score at 21-7 in favor of the Lions heading into the fourth quarter.

Starting the fourth quarter, the first score came at 11:52 when kicker Luke Gillen booted a field goal, extending the Lions’ lead to 24-7. The Leopards still couldn’t find any success on offense, and the Lions took advantage of the opportunity by adding another field goal from Luke Gillen, increasing the lead to 27-7. The Leopards finally broke through with an offensive score, a passing touchdown caught by Kole Doppelheuer, narrowing the score to 27-14 with just 43.3 seconds left in the game. The Lions then took a knee to run out the clock, securing the victory.

With the win, the Lions improved to a 5-0 record and will return home to face Baldwin, a team that has yet to win a game this year.

The Leopards, meanwhile, who are now 1-2 will regroup and prepare to travel to face a familiar opponent, Thomas Jefferson.
