Southern Lehigh Stays Unbeaten With Convincing Win Friday Night.

Southern Lehigh Quarterback Chris Fritts was perfect Friday night in a key Colonial/Schuylkill League Football game Friday night.

BANGOR- The Southern Lehigh Spartan express picked up right where they left off last week. Coming off a 68-28 win over a talented Notre Dame Green Pond team. Friday night on the road at Paul Farnan Field, the Bangor Slaters took their turn to knock off the Spartans, but a 41 point first half barrage propelled the Spartans to a dominating 47-6 win despite an hour delay to start the contest as an a early evening thunderstorm rolled in

On their opening possession the Spartans went on a 59 yard seven play drive capped off by a three yard Cade Sawyer score on a 4th down with 8:25 left in the first quarter. The key play was a 36 yard pass from Fritts to Andrew Olesh to set the visitors up in the red zone.

The Bangor Slater defense came up big on the next Spartan drive as they stopped a potential scoring drive inside the ten, but QB Greg Campbell put a perfect pass on the hands of his receiver streak down the seam, only to see the ball go through his receivers hands. Then a series of bad breaks gave the Spartans excellent field position and they took full advantage to put the game out of reach.

A shanked punt of six yards put the ball on the Slaters 35. Fritts who completed 8 of 8 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns, connected with Andrew Olesh and a 14-0 9:43 left in the half.

The next time Bangor had the ball a low snap on a fourth down punt and a knee touched before the kick gave Southern Lehigh the ball at the 17 yard line. On the second play from scrimmage Friits rolled right and threw well designed screen pass to Sawyer on the left and 16 yards later it was a 21-0 lead with 6:33 left in the half.

Cade Sawyer found the end zone once again from 22 yards out at the 3:56 mark and a 28-0 lead. The drive began with another short Bangor punt.

The special teams woes continued for Bangor as another bad snap on the punt gave the Spartans the ball inside the Slaters 20 from their Sawyer ran it in from 12 yards with 2:16 left and a 35-0 lead.

On the first play of the Slaters next possession they fumbled the ball back to the Spartans and Fritts to Jack Inglis with just 2:01 left in the half and 41-0 lead.

Bangor managed to get their offense in gear on the next drive and with just 39 seconds left. Quarterback Greg Campbell tossed a six yard pass to Gavin Nelson to make 41-6 at intermission,

The second half saw both teams using backup players, where the only score came on a 26 yard pass for Southern Lehigh as Colton Sams hit Otto Young for a touchdown with 2:09 left.

Cade Sawyer who rushed for 58 yards on 12 carries and 3 touchdowns had this to say about the win.

Southern Lehigh improves to 3-0 and will host 1-2 Palisades on Friday. The Pirates dropped a 54-23 decision to Palmerton. Bangor (2-1) will host Saucon Valley (2-1) The Panthers routed Wilson 41-8.
