Sacred Heart University, who won back to back Yankee Conference Titles, will be getting an anchor on their offensive and defensive lines in Southern Lehigh C/DE Lucas Sutyak in 2027. He was a 1st team all league center and defensive end that helped lead the way for RB Sean Steckert and the Spartans explosive offense en route to their PIAA 4A State Title win in 2025 over Twin Valley.

Sutyak received offers from University of California of Pennsylvania and Sacred Heart University before committing to the latter. He also had conversations with Maine, Albany and East Stroudsburg University.

Sutyak’s skills were on full display at the Buxmont Showcase in April and the Lehigh Valley Football Showcase in May, garnering attention from the aforementioned colleges, their coaches, and scouts.

Coach Sam’s says “Lucas is very athletic especially for a 6’3” 300 lb. OL. He has been a 4 year starter in our program that has produced a lot of points on the ground and in the air!

While Sacred Heart can’t wait for Sutyak to man both sides of their trenches in 2027, he will look to lead Southern Lehigh to a repeat PIAA 4A State Title and also add to his already strong football resume. Sutyak is the fourth PA player to commit to the Pioneers this summer. Blackhawks running back Brayden Mccarthy, Norwin lineman Max Fierle, and Twin Valley lineman Liam Sheehan have also pledged to the Pioneers.

We caught up with Lucas to ask him about his decision and more:

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to them before your Sr season?

I chose to commit to Sacred Heart because of its long history of success, the stability of its coaching staff, and the outstanding culture within the program. It is a great place to develop as both a player and a person, while competing at a high level. I’m excited for the opportunity to play football in one of the top conferences in the FCS and be part of a program with such a strong tradition.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence there. , who recruited you?

Coach Tiernan!

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

Sacred Heart is getting a player who understands the game and has been around football his entire life. I take pride in being physical, working hard, and doing whatever I can to help my team succeed. I’m a competitor who is always willing to put in the work and do the little things it takes to win. I’m excited for the opportunity to bring that mindset to Sacred Heart and continue growing as a player and teammate!

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

It was well for me

PFN: What position were you recruited for?

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

They just wanted me to be happy and they love sacred heart!

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?

Their run first mentality really fits my style of play, and that’s something that stood out to me right away. I love playing physical football and being part of an offense that takes pride in running the ball. Just as important, I was drawn to the brotherhood within the program. The relationships between the players and coaches are special, and it felt like a place where I could compete, grow, and be part of something bigger than myself

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for them?

Competing everyday!

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

My baseball coach used to call me Barry Bonds

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

My father!

Why do you play football?

Like I said I’ve grown up around it and love the game!

What would you do to improve the recruiting process?

I personally really enjoyed the recruiting process! But it can be overwhelming

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

Nothing just excited for a great senior season!

What are your goals for this coming season?

To go back to back and finally win a league championship

Tell everyone why you think football is good for a community

It’s a game like no other
