St Joseph’s Prep Rolls to 8th Straight State Championship Appearance with Rout of Garnet Valley

Since dropping their season opener to St. Thomas Aquinas the Hawks of St. Joseph’s Prep have been on a roll winning 10 consecutive games. On Saturday, at windy rain-soaked Charles Martin Stadium at Northeast High School the Hawks extended their win streak to 11 with dominating 48-7 victory over the District 1 Champion Garnet Valley Jaguars.

The win sends the Hawks to their eighth straight State Championship appearance.

The Hawks came out firing on all cylinders posting 27 first quarter points. Samaj Jones got the scoring party started on the game’s opening drive when he raced 21 yards to the endzone. After forcing the Jaguars to a three and out the Hawks offense took over and again found the endzone this time it was Erik Sanchez taking it from 12 yards out. Khaseem Phillips would go 43 yards untouched up the gut of the Jaguars defense to make it 21-0. The final Hawks touchdown of the first quarter was via Jones’s arm has he connected with David Washington for 55 yard touchdown.

While by the time the second quarter started the rain subsided the storm that was the Hawks offense kept pouring it scoring three more times in the quarter with Jones throwing two more touchdown passes to Brandon Rehmann and Michael DiTrolio that sandwiched an Isaiah West touchdown run.

In all the Hawkds offense nearly tallied 350 yards of total offense in the first half.

The Hawks defense was just has impressive holding the Jaguars vaunted run heavy offense to a under 40 yards of total offense for the half and not allowing the Jaguars to gain a first down without a penalty till the clocked showed almost 4 minutes left.

The lone blemish on the Hawks defense came with 9:04 left in the fourth quarter when Matt Mesaros connected with a wide-open Drew Van Horn for a 24-yard touchdown.

The Hawks advance to face Harrisburg on Saturday in the 6A Championship while the Jaguars season ends with a record of 13-1.
