Heritage Conference Game of the Week
Purchase Line Red Dragons (5-2) at Marion Center Stingers (2-5)
Last Meeting : 9/30/22 Stingers 7 @ Dragons 20
What a difference a week makes. PL was smacked down and MC had pulled off an upset against PM. The three schools in northern Indiana county are all about 8-10 miles from the big town of Clymer Pa and depending on who you talk to rivals. You can throw the records out when these teams meet. Marion Center came into the game playing some very tough defense but struggling on offense. They had only scored two touchdown in a game twice this year. It was homecoming on the Hill. Congratulations to Lydia Miller and Cobe Hankinson on being named king and queen. Purchase Line came into the game scoring at least three touchdowns in every game except last week against United Valley. The Red Dragons have been battling a mountain of injuries and seem to play up or down to their opponents ability. The first half was a war with the Stingers outplaying the visiting Dragons and leading 7-0 going into the locker room. Purchase Line turned the ball over going in for a first quarter touchdown and did very little after that in the first half. Purchase Line got the ball first in the second half and had a nice drive before it stalled. The Stingers responded with a seven minute drive of their own and appeared to be ready to put the game out of reach when they fumbled it deep in Red Dragon territory with just seconds to go in the third quarter. PL quarterback John Elick capped a five minute drive at 7:35 of the fourth with a two yard touchdown. I predicted Coach Matt Falisec would go for two as the kicking team trotted out. I think the Stingers predicted it also as the Dragons were stopped on the fake and the Stingers still led 7-6. As the PL band started playing the “Final Countdown” the Stingers were fumbling again this time the kickoff at their own 35. The Red Dragons recover and on fourth down Elick scored again from 28 yards out. The Stingers turned the ball over on their next drive also. The interception was their third straight turnover. The Dragons ran out the clock and snuck off the Hill with a come from behind 14-7 win. The Stingers can still turn their season around as they face the winless Conemaugh Township on the road and finish with a banged up West Shamokin. Purchase Line finishes with games at Homer Center and home against Penns Manor. Both teams are capable of beating the Dragons.
