BOOTHWYN PA – As if teleporting was real, somehow we have stumbled upon the end of the regular season. The Bishop Shanahan Eagles, with their playoff chances on the rocks, looked to capitalize on a struggling Chichester team. As for the Chichester Eagles, the playoffs faded into a void a while back and now they just looked to scrap out a win in their final game at home. Just about a year ago to the day this same match-up took place to end the regular season and then the following week in the playoffs. Bishop Shanahan came out on top last year in both matchups and they stayed consistent with a 35-6 win last night.

The sun fell below the horizon before the opening kick-off even took place. The lights gleamed down on the Anthony Apachella Memorial Field, and two Eagle flocks took the grass to cap off the season. The coin toss favored Bishop Shanahan; they elected to defer. Chichester would get the ball to end the last Friday Night Lights at home.

A quick start to the game would not be to likes of Chichester, a fumble on Chi’s second play would give the ball to Bishop Shanahan in the red zone. Shanahan would capitalize on that and strike first with a touchdown pass to Aiden Civitella. A blocked PAT would sit the Shanahan Eagles at 6-0 with 10:30 left in the first.

After a three and out by Chichester they punted, only for Shanahan to get the ball on their opponents 40-yard line. With a fire lit under Bishop Shanahan, knowing if they lose they would kiss the playoffs goodbye. Shanahan’s Patrick Gallagher ran it for six, followed by a 2pt conversion to make up for the blocked PAT. Shanahan was up 14-0 with 4:00 minutes remaining in the first. Chichester would go on to struggle to move the ball across midfield as the first would eventually hit the history books with a 14-0 Shanahan lead.

After ending the first in great field postion, Shanahan would find themsleves on their opponents 23-yard line. Their QB Zach Ferraro would find Nate Olivo in the endzone for a touchdown. An extra point try would sail through the uprights for a 21-0 lead. Chichester would go on to call some fresh plays out of the book. Shanahan’s Patrick Gallagher would stay unfazed and pick-off Chichester’s Danny Kelly and return it down to their opponents 6. Shanahan now almost inside the five would hand it off to Trevor Barbadora and he would take it in for yet another score. The PAT would make it a generous 28-0 Shanahan lead with 8:23 left in the half. A Chichester drive would be then cut short due to a Walter Jones pass leading to an interception. Chichester’s defense would show up to close the half with a Jahmad Rosario interception. Bishop Shanahan would stay up 28-0 at the half.

With Bishop Shanahan starting the second half with the rock, they would get the ball at their 45-yard line. For Nate Bracken he got one shot, and he did not throw it away. A 55-yard house call would throw up another six on the scoreboard. A PAT off the cleat would ail successful. It would be the last time Shanahan would roll the scoreboard, making it 35-0. To them though it was plenty as the 35-point mercy rule fell into effect. As the clock ran parallel to the saying “time never stops,” a static 20 minutes would begin. The third would conclude with Shanahan up 24-0. A quick fourth would follow a quick third. Chichester’s Dan Kelly would return for one play, but a deep pass would lead to another interception. Some punts would eventually find Chichester with possesion and 16 seconds left in the game. A pass by Walter Jones to Kahleef Best would put six up on the board for Chi, and the game would conclude just like that 35-6.

Bishop Shanahan kept their tranquility in game that was win or say goodbye to the playoffs. With a Pottsgrove loss tonight, a playoff spot would have Shanahan’s name on it, but Pottsgrove won. They will now look to see how the Saturday games play out. A team that lost so many weapons last year found a way to win other ways. Shanahan improves to 4-5 after a hard fought season playing many elite teams. Chichester played their last one this season at home and end a rough couple of months, 1-9. For Chichester, the only thing on the agenda is their Turkey Bowl against the playoff bound Sun Valley Vanguards on Thanksgiving.
