Entering the District 2 4A semi-final between Valley View and Wyoming Area, many pegged Wyoming Area as the favorite, but the masses were wrong. Valley View was able to punch a ticket to the District 2 4A title game with a 20-0 shutout win over Wyoming Area.
Wyoming Area enters the matchup with an impressive 10-1 record and the three seed in the D2 4A playoffs. With this seeding, that meant they would have to travel to Peckville and battle the Valley View Cougars in mid-November. Like playing in Foxboro in December, playing at Valley View in November is no place a team wants to be. Tonight the den caught its newest prey.
Although having a worse record than Wyoming Area, Valley View earned the two seed in the D2 4A playoffs, meaning home-field advantage for this game. They were able to squeak by a 3-7 Berwick team a week ago and now had their eyes set on Wyoming Area. The great Wyoming Area running game was combatted tonight by a strong defensive line and run defense that held Wyoming Area in check all evening.
The game started out as a stalemate, the first quarter quickly flew by and not a single point was put on the scoreboard. It took to the 5-minute mark of the 2nd quarter for Valley View to put the first points on the board with a Dominic Memo sneak.

The star of the game was Chris Savkov, if two INTs weren’t enough, he also caught a Dominic Memo TD on a nice fade route.

Wyoming Area just could not move the ball. Drive after drive Valley View stuffed them and made crucial plays on 4th-and-longs all throughout the game.
In his final game at home, Camryn Higgins had to find the endzone and give Valley View a commanding 20-0 lead. For the rest of the game, Wyoming Area tried to move the ball, but Valley View was just not letting it happen. Valley View pitched a 20-0 shutout in a dominant win.
One of the best players in the area, Wyoming Area Runningback Aaron Crossley, was neutralized and limited today. Wyoming Area built their whole team around running the rock with Crossley. When he was hobbled, Wyoming Area was lost and could not get a rhythm going. After an ultra-impressive 1800-yard and 26TDs season, Crossley went out on a sour note in his final High School Football game. Unfortunately for Wyoming Area, being one-dimension can really be a kryptonite if that one-dimension does not work.
Valley View now heads to a familiar place, Dallas for the district title game. Throughout the first two playoff games, the Valley View defense has been excellent. The offense, on the other hand, needs some work. They are averaging just 16 points a game throughout the first two playoff games. If Valley View wants to win the district title, they will need to step it up to keep up with Dallas’s lethal offensive attack.
After the game, I caught up With Valley View Head Coach Scot Waslichak and the Player of the Game Chris Savkov
