Pittsburgh – Westinghouse scored 36 straight points to claim their second consecutive Pittsburgh City League Title.

For the second consecutive season, the Westinghouse Bulldogs capped an undefeated regular season with a District 8 Crown – a title that head coach Donta Green found twice as nice.

“It feels great to be back on this stage and come away victorious,” Green said. “Now it’s about returning to the drawing board to determine what we did wrong. I like the things we did right, but we need to correct the things we did wrong and continue moving forward.”

The game was comparable to their matchup against the Wildcats when the Bulldogs led 21-12 at halftime before coming out victorious 34-18.

Though the Bulldogs would take an 8-6 lead into the locker room, it was USO that needed only 53 seconds to open the scoring when Daniel Cain caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from Max Qureshi following a 75-yard drive.

It would be the only offensive points for the Wildcats in the game.

“We were a little erratic in our passing game, but we struggled running the ball,” said USO head coach Lou Berry. “It got to the point where they could rush four and drop seven in coverage. Our quarterback may have been a little rusty because he barely played in the Allderdice game and didn’t play last week. He won’t use that as an excuse, nor will we.”

Westinghouse answered back in time when Khalil Green scored on a 3-yard run following a 7-play 67-yard drive – Taymir O’Neal’s 2-point rush gave the Bulldogs the 8-6 advantage. Ty Abrams’ 45-yard gain was the drive’s big play.

Both teams had red zone opportunities in the first half, but to no avail.

“We always preach to the guys that it’s always us versus us,” said Green. “We left points on the field today, and it’s always about us needing to execute.”

Westinghouse wasted zero time taking control of the contest in the third quarter as freshman Jordan Reid took the kickoff back 90 yards for a touchdown.

Following a short punt, the Bulldogs extended their lead when Green scored from three yards out to close the third quarter.

In the fourth stanza, Westinghouse put the game away when Green scored on runs of 61 and 18 yards. Ty Abrams led the Bulldogs with 122 yards on 22 carries, including 109 yards in the first half.

“That was a big play and the plays that got the momentum going for us,” Green said. “For a freshman in Jordan Reid to make that play made it even bigger. We knew he had those abilities, and we’re excited to see what he does in the coming years. That play gave our guys the juice that they needed.”

Khalil Green rushed for 77 yards on 13 carries, scoring four touchdowns while completing 3-of-7 passes for three yards.

“I beat him up verbally through the first two quarters,” said Green. “But he’s resilient, and that’s why he’s not only one of the leaders of our offense but of our entire team.”

USO managed to get one back when Cain returned the kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown following Green’s 18-yard run.

Daniel Cain added three receptions for 35 yards and one rush for six yards, along with two touchdowns, to lead USO. Max Qureshi, who missed the previous game with a concussion, completed 12-of-35 passes for 166 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

In the closing minutes, Michael Richardson ran a fake punt 52 yards for the exclamation point for the Bulldogs on their championship.

Westinghouse now moves on to the District 5/8 Sub-Regional playoffs.
