Wyoming Area gets past Carbondale to advance to the District 2 3A Semifinals

Coming in, it looked like an even matchup with Carbondale and Wyoming Area sporting big offensive lines and looking to run the football. The Warrior line dominated both sides of the ball as Lidge Kellum who scored three touchdowns in the games first 13 minutes and the defense pitched a shutout as Wyoming Area took a 49-0 victory over Carbondale to advance to the District 2 3A Semifinals. “The kids have worked hard. We’ve built some momentum over the last several weeks. To have our players that are established to be playing at a high level up front on both sides of the ball with the physicality that we are playing with.” Said Warriors head coach Randy Spencer.

Wyoming Area started with the ball and Lidge Kellum carried the ball four times on the drive ending with a 34 yard touchdown run to make it 7-0 Warriors with 10:09 remaining in the first quarter. Carbondale looked to tie up the game. The Chargers picked up one first down but the drive stalled and were forced to punt.

Wyoming Area went four plays as Lidge Kellum went down the sideline going 56 yards for his second score of the game as they went up 14-0 with 4:34 remaining in the first. The Warriors defense forced a three and out. First play of the second quarter, Kellum scored his third touchdown of the game as he went 17 yards out for a 21-0 lead with 11:52 to go in the second quarter.

Michael Crane scored from five yards out to make it 28-0 with 6:44 left in the second quarter. After an interception by Trustin Johnson, Johnson ended up scoring from five yards out to make it 35-0 with 4:18 left in the second quarter and that was your score at halftime. The mercy rule was in effect during the second half.

The starters for Wyoming Area stayed in for one more drive as Anthony DeLucca went to Kevin Wiedl for a 55 yard touchdown to make it 42-0 with 8:43 left in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Brady Jones found Drew Keating from 26 yards out to make it 49-0 with 9:51 to go in the fourth quarter. The backups kept the shutout going on defense as Wyoming Area advanced to the District 2 3A Semifinals with a 49-0 victory over Carbondale.
