
Wyoming Area goes to 2-0 with victory over Dallas

Wyoming Area came into this game looking to prove something in their home opener. The Warriors used their ground game behind a stellar offensive line to go to 2-0 and take a 49-41 victory over Dallas. Lidge Kellum on the win tonight. “It was great, it was absolutely amazing. Everyone stepped up. Our line did a great job blocking, I’m grateful.” Warriors head coach Randy Spencer couldn’t say enough of how proud he was of his team. “The last two weeks, we went through adversity in both games and found a way to win.”

After the first three possessions ended in punts, Wyoming Area drove the ball to the Dallas 34 after a Lidge Kellum 26 yard run. However, Anthony DeLucca’s pass was intercepted by Ben Wickenheisen at the 10 yard line. On a third down and 2, Brady Zapoticky went to Logan Geskey and went for 82 yards to make it 7-0 Mountaineers with 4:21 remaining in the first quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, Lidge Kellum returns it 88 yards for the score. After a Dallas punt, Wyoming Area fumbles deep in their own territory and the Mountaineers recover. On a fourth and 5, Zapoticky goes to Nate Mularkey for a 19 yard touchdown to make it 14-7 Dallas with 11:46 remaining in the second quarter.

After both teams trade punts, the Warriors tied the game up with a five yard touchdown run by Kellum and his second of the game. Dallas went on a drive that started at their own 35 and ended with a two yard touchdown run by Dylan Geskey to make it 21-14 with 2:09 remaining in the second quarter. It only took one play for Wyoming Area as Kellum got his third touchdown of the game from 63 yards out.

Zapoticky drove the Mountaineers down the field, he found Dylan Geskey several times on the drive. However, Zapoticky ended the drive by going to Sam Kelley for an 18 yard touchdown to take a 28-21 Dallas lead. The Warriors looked the tie the game just before halftime and looked like they would as Kellum went for 23 and got the ball all the way to the 37 as Anthony DeLucca found Luke Kopetchny for a 16 yard completion. However, Wyoming Area was unable to get to the end zone as hit halftime.

The Warriors got the ball to start the second quarter and drove down the field ending with a three yard touchdown run by Trustin Johnson to tie the game at 28. On the ensuing Dallas drive, first play Zapoticky finds Kelley for 29 yards but they faced a fourth and 8 and the pass fell incomplete. Wyoming Area took over and the lead as Johnson got his second touchdown of the game with a nine yard score and a 35-28 Warrior lead with 2:16 remaining in the third quarter.
The Mountaineers went three and out and looked to punt but attempted a fake and they were short of the first down. With great field position, the Warriors answer as DeLucca finds Kopetchny for a 15 yard score and it’s a 42-28 lead with 8:47 remaining in the game. Dallas looked to get a score and answered as Zapoticky found Cole Rigol for a 28 yard score to the cut the lead down to 42-35. The Mountaineers attempt an onside kick and succeed on the recovery. However, they faced a fourth down and the pass fell incomplete with 7:25 left.
Wyoming Area went three and out and were punting the ball away. Dylan Geskey got a great return to the Warrior 29 yard line. First play of the drive, Zapoticky’s pass is batted at the end and intercepted by Kevin Wield. Kellum goes 61 yards on the first play after the interception to make it 49-35 with 5:19 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Mountaineers got the ball back and drive ended with Zapoticky scoring from two yards out to make it 49-41 with 5:11 left in the game. The onside kick was unsuccessful this time and the Warriors recover. The Warriors used up the rest of the clock as they defeated the Dallas Mountaineers 49-41 at home.
