Welcome to Week 3 of the 2026 high school football season. We’ve still got some warm weather two weeks into September, which is always nice to have. It looks like it is going to stay that way for this week as well, which means I won’t have to break out my long sleeves just yet. This week we’ve got two very solid matchups on tap, including a visit down in District 3 for the first time this year, so let’s take a look at the games for this week.
Our Friday matchup brings us down to District 3 for the first time this year, Central Panther Stadium, the home of the Central York Panthers. This will be my first time covering two ranked teams playing each other in 2026, with both of these teams sitting in our 6A class rankings. Central York sits at number 10 in the 6A rankings with a record of 1-1, while Manheim Township is an honorable mention with a record of 2-0. This is the second time in the first three weeks of the year that Central York is matching up with a ranked 6A opponent. In the opening week of the season Central York lost a close battle with number 5 ranked State College, losing 35-28 at home. Central York will be Manheim Township’s first big challenge of the 2026 season, as they enter this matchup with wins against Cumberland Valley and Neshaminy. One player to keep an eye on for Central York in this matchup is their sophomore quarterback Jamin Ilgenfritz. Ilgenfritz already has three division 1 offers as a sophomore, he is one of the most talented quarterbacks that I have watched highlights on, he will be a big factor in this game. Manheim Township has a very talented running junior running back in Parrish Myers, who is leading their backfield this season. The Blue Streaks fell in last year’s matchup against Central York, losing 36-28, so Manheim Township looks to get revenge from their loss last season.
Back down to Philadelphia we go this weekend, and once again we’re going to Germantown Supersite. This is the second time so far this year that I am travelling down to Germantown, and it’s the second time that I will be seeing Imhotep Charter play there. The opening week of the season, my final game of the weekend was Imhotep Charter against Camden out of the New Jersey. Imhotep Charter won that game 29-8, but they come into this matchup with a record of 1-1 after losing to DeMatha Catholic last week. Imhotep fell in an extremely close battle, losing just 21-20 against the number 2 ranked team in Maryland, and now they will have another extremely tough battle. Malvern Prep enters the matchup 1-0, as they beat up on La Salle College 21-0, who is not only the defending 6A state champions, but was also previously ranked number 3 in the state. Malvern Prep is a 5A school in terms of classification, however they are a private independent school, so they compete in the non-PIAA Inter-Academic League. Last season the Friars crushed Imhotep Charter 35-7 at home, so this time the matchup will be on Imhotep Charter’s home field. Imhotep played much better last week against DeMatha than they did against Camden in the first week of the year, even despite the loss. The Panthers will need to keep that same level of play against Malvern Prep if they want to avenge their loss from last season.
