Haverford Fullback/Linebacker Ben Murphy joins the group of PA prospects who have decided they’d like to concentrate on their season and end their recruiting process. Yesterday on twitter he made his announcement:

We caught up with the talented player and asked him about that decision:

PFN: How long have you played football?

I’ve been playing football since I was bout 5 or 6. My dad is a coach so I always had a football in my hands.

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Hawks?

Both times I’ve been on campus it’s felt like home. It’s a great mix of athletics and academics which is what I was looking for. There is a great community around the school and football program which made this an easy decision. Everyone in the community loves Lehigh football which is something I wanted. I also have a lot of family around here so it is going to be nice for them to come see me play.

PFN: Why commit early?

I commited early because since I started the college process, Lehigh has been my number one choice with or without football so this was an easy decision. It worked out well that they were my first offer.

PFN: What position were you recruited for:

Not sure what position I’m going to play when I get there just based on their offense, but my first position is fullback/H-back

PFN: Who was your biggest influence at Lehigh, who recruited you?

Coach Noonan was the coach who recruited me. He actually started coaching at my highschool which I thought was very cool and it made it easy to develop a relationship with him.

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

I think I bring toughness and a hardworking attitude to the field. I play fullback which is a very old school, hard nosed position and with my dad being a coach he was always tougher on me which is something I’m very thankful for. It helped develop me into the physical hard nosed player that I consider myself.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

I was looking at other patriot league schools and also a mix of other FCS schools and some D3 schools. Lehigh was the first and only school to offer me a spot so far but I felt no need to hold off because of how much I liked it.

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

I’m thinking about doing something with engineering which is one of the main things Lehigh is known for so it’s a perfect fit. I’m not dead set on that but as of now it is what I’m thinking of doing

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the Lehigh program?

I love how involved the community is. There is a great atmosphere around Lehigh football which is something I looked for. I really wanted a football community. One specific thing is the rivalry with Lafayette. It is one of the oldest rivalries in college football and packs the stadium every year so it is something I’m really looking forward to.

PFN: Tell everyone out there in Hawks land something they’d never know about you until you told them:

I also play lacrosse for my highschool. We’re currently ranked number 8 in the country so that’s been a very cool experience

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

My dad has definetly influence me the most. He is the coach at my school and I always dreamed of playing for him. Football was always a big part of our family because of him and he helped me develop a love for the game. He’s taught me so much and I can’t thank him enough

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school team mates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

I just want to thank all of them for everything they’ve done. I consider everyone on my team my brother and I love being with them everyday. Everyday we’re working real hard to win our league championship which has developed a bond unlike any other in my life. I also want to thank my family, my coaches and everyone who has ever done something to help me achieve my goal. I couldn’t have done it without you and you’ll always have a special place in my heart.
