Ridley Shuts Out Marple Newtown In Massive Victory

Jamar Savoy leads the Green Raider offense to victory

The Ridley Green Raiders took down the Marple Newtown Tigers by a final score of 31-0 on Friday night.

Here were my thoughts before the game

Ridley won the toss and elected to defer, giving Marple the first drive of the game. The game started with three punts, two from Marple and one from Ridley. Ridley got the first first down of the game during their second offensive appearance, but a sack and fumble resulting in a loss of 14 yards for the Raiders forced them to punt it away. Marple Newtown didn’t get anything rolling and punted once again.

The Ridley offense was back on the field, and things started to trend their way. Jamar Savoy was leading the offense on the ground, taking Ridley all the way down to the goal line. On fourth and goal, Marple’s defense showed its strength, stopping Savoy and taking over on their own three-yard line.

Marple did not get the ball past their own 10-yard line following the defensive snuff on fourth down and punted the ball back to the Raiders once again.

Ridley’s offense finally showed life on their next drive. Jamar Savoy tacked on two double-digit rushes and set the Green Raiders up in the red zone. Savoy could not be stopped and rushed his way into the end zone for the first score of the ballgame. Tim Calamitas’s extra point was good, and the Green Raiders led 7-0 with 4:29 to go in the half.

Marple had little time to get down the field and make things happen, but they were able to complete a few passes and end up just outside of the 50-yard line before calling their second timeout of the half. Nick Link came out of the timeout and delivered a deep ball pass that was incomplete but was flagged for pass interference. Link couldn’t complete his next few passes, and the Tigers were facing a fourth down with just over a minute to go in the half. Links fourth down pass was targeted for the back of the end zone but was too strong, resulting in a turnover on downs. Ridley ran out the clock and took the game into halftime.

Here were my thoughts at halftime

Coming out of the half, Ridley received the opening kick and went three-and-out; Marple followed with a punt of their own on the very next drive, and Ridley quickly had the ball back.

Joey Carroll started off the Ridley drive with a 20-yard pass to Gabe Smith. Smith’s reception was followed by a 59-yard gain from Jamar Savoy, bringing the Green Raiders inside their own 15. Carroll handed the ball off to Savoy once again, putting Ridley inside the 5. Savoy finished off the job with his second rushing touchdown of the night, putting Ridley up 14-0.

Following the touchdown, Marple took over on offense and began their next drive. The Marple Newtown offense got a first down on a fourth-down sneak play, giving the Tigers 1st and ten on their own side of the 50. Tommy Diblasi was in at QB for the Tigers during the drive. Diblasi surveyed the right side of the field on first down before delivering a bullet that was intercepted by Kevin Farley.

Ridley took over on the Marple side of the 50 after Farley’s interception. Kicking off the drive, Joey Carroll found Gabe Smith. Carroll then handed the ball off to Jamar Savoy, who rushed to the outside and in for a touchdown, but Ridley was flagged for holding, and the TD was taken back. On the very next play, Makhi Williams speeds past Marple defenders and in for a Green Raider touchdown.

Both teams punt on their next drives, taking us to the fourth quarter, where Ridley leads 21-0 over Marple Newtown.

Marple’s offensive struggles continue, and down by three scores, the Tigers are forced to go for it on fourth down. The fourth-down try was unsuccessful, and Ridley took over in great field position.

Ridley capitalized quickly on Marples’ turnover with another touchdown by Jamar Savoy. With 9:11 to go the Ridley Raiders led 28-0.

Marple does get a great drive going, taking the ball all the way into Ridley territory and inside the 10-yard line before being stopped on fourth down. Ridley took the ball all the way down the field, and Tim Calamita kicked a 34-yard field goal, putting Ridley up 31-0 and putting a close to the game.
