Southern Lehigh dominates Quakertown 55-0 in Season Opener

Returning from their 4A State Championship and recent promotion to 5A, Southern Lehigh came into Alumni Field and toppled Quakertown. Senior quarterback Colton Sams was unstoppable for Quakertown, totaling 5 touchdowns on the night.
To start the contest, the Spartans of Southern Lehigh started on the offensive, attacking the pass game early. Quakertown, in response, battled heavy against Sams’ passing, with man-to-man coverage that allowed a turnover on downs.

Following a punt from Quakertown, Colton Sams continued to attack the defensive backs of Quakertown. With receivers Otto Young and Jack Pavis, Sams had the weapons he needed to drive his team down the field. Sams found several first-down passes, and eventually found Otto Young for a 20-yd pickup to enter the redzone. With Quakertown’s coverage failing, Sams went back to Young, punching in a touchdown and PAT for the Spartans.

Following consecutive interceptions, Southern Lehigh scored twice in the endzone, utilizing running LJ Martin to punch in a quick score. Southern Lehigh was gaining momentum, and their defense had not allowed the Quakertown offense over the 50-yard marker.

Sams then continued the Spartans’ offensive output, connecting with Jack Pavis on a collasped pocket throw. Pavis found the ball over his shoulder, and coralled it in for the Spartans’ fourth touchdown of the half.

Just before halftime, Jack MoDavis, a transfer from Allentown Central Catholic, connected with a pass over-the-middle by Sams, where he juked and dodged tackles from six Quakertown defenders. Leaving the half in a mercy rule, Quakertown found themselves down 49-0, eventually substituting the starters with the imposed running clock.
