Strath Haven brings home 15th straight Media Bowl win

Landon Barlow rushes for 199 yards and powers Haven to victory

The Strath Haven Panthers took down the Penncrest Lions in the Media Bowl on Thursday night. Strath Haven’s victory is their 15th straight Media Bowl win.

Here were my thoughts before the game.

Penncrest won the toss and elected to receive. The Lions offense did get a first down before handing the ball over to Strath Haven for their first drive. Haven utilized the run game right from the jump, with a big rush from Landon Barlow giving them their first score of the game. Barlow had a fantastic game, and this was just the start. The next 6 drives combined from both teams did not go anywhere, and Strath Haven still led 7-0 late in the second quarter.

With just under 2 minutes to go in the second quarter Andrew Luber Solic was picked off and the Panthers took over with a chance to march all the way down the field and get some more points before the games end.

Strath Haven drove all the way down into Penncrest territory, using the passing and running game to get there. Strath Haven had one more shot with 5.6 seconds left on the clock to make some magic happen, and that’s exactly what they did.  Jake Plunkett passed the ball to the outside and found a speedy Jalen Starr, who evaded the defenders and ran all the way into the end zone. Strath Haven led 14-0 with 1.3 seconds on the clock, taking both teams into the halftime break.

Here were my thoughts at halftime.

Coming out of the halftime break, Strath Haven received the ball and wasted no time getting back on the board. Without their star rusher, Derrick Bradley, the Panthers looked to their other playmakers to get things done. The main man to do it was Landon Barlow. Rushes from Yosef Ali and Landon Barlow brought the Panthers down into the red zone with half the 3rd quarter clock chewed away. On 3rd down, Landon Barlow powered his way through the defense and delivered his second score of the game. Strath Haven was now infront 21-0

The Penncrest offense just couldn’t get anything going all night long, and the struggles continued into the third quarter, when the Lions went three-and-out on their first drive of the half. Strath Haven immediately responded with another touchdown, once again from Landon Barlow.  Barlow ended the night with 199 rushing yards on 22 rushes.

The offensive struggles for Penncrest continued as Cole Haly caused a fumble and gave Strath Haven fantastic field position with the team already up 28-0. The third quarter came to a close, and the Panthers found the end zone as soon as the fourth quarter opened up. Kasey Hudson added on with a touchdown rush of his own and pumped up the Haven crowd in the process.

Penncrest went three-and-out on their next drive, and Haven brought in the reserves to put the icing on the cake. The Panthers bench was still able to get it done as Will Davis found the end zone for the last touchdown of the night, making the score 42-0 and giving Haven their first win of the season and 15th straight Media Bowl win.
