Waynesburg Central Picks up a Huge Win on Homecoming

Homecoming night in Waynesburg couldn’t have gone any better than this.
The Waynesburg Central Raiders faced off against the Mount Pleasant Vikings in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
The Vikings won the toss, and they kicked off to the Raiders. The Raiders started off the drive quickly but were stopped by the Vikings and punted the ball away. The Waynesburg defense stepped onto the field and got right to work. They continued to pound on the Vikings and made them go three-and-out.
The next drive, Waynesburg hustled down the field and, with the added defensive pass interference, put them into the red zone. Ky-Mani Sumpter got the handoff and rushed into the end zone to put the Raiders on the board in the first quarter.
The Waynesburg defense came up big once again, forcing another three-and-out drive. Waynesburg once again handed the ball off to Sumpter, and he exploded out on an open lane and scored a 38-yard rushing touchdown. The PAT was no good, making the score 13-0 in favor of Waynesburg.
Waynesburg’s defense continued to be a wall and once again, forced a three-and-out drive. Teagan Crouse and the rest of the Waynesburg offense came to play football tonight and Crouse stepped up and threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Jack Ricciuti. With this 34-yard completion, he now has the most receptions and receiving yards in school history.
Waynesburg’s defense didn’t stumble and was able to get the Viking offense off of the field. Sumpter got the hand off and rushed for another touchdown, his third in the 1st quarter.
At the end of the first quarter, the score is 27-0, Raiders lead.
Things started off quickly in the second half with the Vikings finding themselves in the endzone for the first time of the night to make the score 27-7.
That didn’t stop Waynesburg, they immediately got back on pace and scored a touchdown courtesy of Crouse, who made the completion to Caleb Phillips. The Raiders went for the two-point conversion and Sumpter rushed in to make the two-pointer successful.
The Raiders made the stop on defense and Crouse found Jackson Brunell for another touchdown to make the score 42-7 to enter the half.
Things started off shaky for the Vikings after a high snap flew into the endzone for a safety. The Vikings defense made some moves made an interception to put the ball back into their hands. They continued to press downfield and scored a touchdown to make the score 44-14.
The clock continued to wind down and the game ending with a historic night for the Raiders. Crouse set the new record for all-time passing yards in school history. Ricciuti set the record for the most receptions and receiving yards in school history.
The Raiders (4-1, 0-1) will head to Southmoreland to take on the Scotties (2-3, 1-1) next Friday. The Vikings (3-2,0-0) will head to Freeport to take on the Yellowjackets next Friday.
