Coming off a memorable upset of Parkland last week, Whitehall’s Zephyrs looked to close out their regular season on a high note. And they certainly did via a 35-21 victory over Allentown Central Catholic.

To start the evening, the Vikings received the opening kickoff and drove downfield to score on their opening possession with a 6-yard jaunt by running back Trey Torres-Johnson.  With 8:16 left in the first, the Vikings led 7-0.

The Zephyrs responded right back with a scoring drive of their own as Tanner Dogmanits found CJ Lowe over the top of the Central Catholic defense for a touchdown to tie the game at 7 with 5:43 left in the first quarter.

The ensuing drive for the Vikings finished out the first quarter, then on 4th down to start the 2nd, Pena’s pass was intercepted on 4th down in the end zone by Whitehall’s Rocco Fonzone to thwart the Vikings’ scoring threat.

The Zephs didn’t waste this opportunity as they drove right down the field and capped off the drive with a touchdown via a pass from Dogmanits to Henry Shultz in the flat who took it in from 12 yards out for 6, as the extra point ricocheted off the upright and was no good.  With 8:38 left in the half, Whitehall led, 13-7.

Now into the 2nd half, the Vikings looked to crawl back into the game as Janiel Pena found Tahir Edmondson for a 41-yard catch-and-run for a score with 7:45 remaining in the 3rd quarter to bring the score to 20-14 Whitehall.

Whitehall was finally able to extend the lead back to 2 scores early on in the 4th quarter as Tanner Dogmanits took a designed quarterback run 41 yards to the house and then keeps it again himself for the 2 point conversion to bring the score to 28-14 in favor of the Zephs with 10:38 remaining in the game.

Later in the quarter the Vikings Torres-Johnson found the endzone on a short 3 yard run to bring the Vikings within 1 score, but it was not enough as Jeziah Gregory answered the call right back for Whitehall to make it 35-21 with 4:32 left in the game.

That would be the final score from Whitehall as the Zephyrs finish their regular season 9-1 and look to host a District 11 6A playoff game next week vs. a team yet to be determined.  Allentown Central Catholic finishes their regular season 6-4 and will be in the District 11 4A playoff next week.
