Friday night’s matchup between the Elizabeth Forward Warriors and South Allegheny Gladiators was called due to a gunshot being fired nearby, with a final score of EF 42, SA 20.
#8 Kaden Allen got the Warriors on the board early with a 30-yard QB keeper. Near the end of the first quarter, Allen was able to connect with #11 Geo Thompson for a 33-yard touchdown pass. A fumble recovery on the Gladiators’ 19-yard line was enough to give the Warriors one more possession in the first quarter, leading to another Allen rushing touchdown for 19 yards. A 68-yard kick return by Chance Cole brought the Gladiators to the EF 29-yard line, leading to a touchdown pass from #7 Alijah Cook to #1 Malakai Myers to close out the first quarter 21-6 following a failed 2-point conversion.
Sophomore standout Rocco Thompson found his way into the end zone in the second quarter for Elizabeth Forward. A 37-yard pass from Alijah Cook to #4 Chance Cole brought South Allegheny down to the Warriors’ 11-yard line with under a minute left in the half. #8 Derrick Pace would drive his way in for a 4-yard touchdown to close out the half 28-12 following a second failed 2-point attempt.
South Allegheny got the ball to start the second half and was able to cap off the drive with a second rushing touchdown from Pace, with a successful 2-point attempt caught by Marcel Boxley making the score 28-20 EF. A handoff to Rocco Thompson killed the Gladiators’ momentum as he was able to find some space and break one for a 66-yard touchdown, making the score 35-20. Thompson would score his third touchdown of the night before the game was called with around 4 minutes left in the third.
Elizabeth Forward (1-0) will head to Cranberry Township next Friday to face North Catholic. South Allegheny (0-1) will head to Washington to face the Prexies.
