The Blue Eagles of Magnolia traveled to Bridgeport, Ohio, defeating the Bulldogs at Perkins Field by a score of 36-28. Magnolia set the tone early when #5 Cayden Hall intercepted a Bridgeport pass and returned it to the Bridgeport 6-yard line, setting up his own 3-yard touchdown run to make the score 6-0 after a failed 2-point conversion.
Bridgeport answered right back on a 47-yard touchdown pass from Aiden Kinsey to Nico Jerome, tying the score at 6-6 after a failed 2-point try. Magnolia responded with a 30-yard touchdown run from Greg Moore, and a 2-point conversion pass from Bryson Postlethwait to Ashton Skelley made it 14-6 after the first quarter.
Hall struck again in the second quarter, scoring from 4 yards out and adding the 2-point conversion himself on the ground to push the lead to 22-6 at the half.
Bridgeport recovered an onside kick to open the second half, capitalizing quickly on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Kinsey to Isaac Benda to cut the deficit to 22-12 after a failed 2-point try. Magnolia answered with Hall’s third touchdown of the night, an 11-yard run, and his second successful 2-point conversion made it 30-12. Bridgeport struck again before the end of the third, as Kinsey connected with Ashton Smith for a 47-yard score, and a 2-point pass to Benda cut it to 30-20.
Hall scored his fourth touchdown of the night in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard run, making it 36-20 after a failed 2-point try. Bridgeport made things interesting late, as Kinsey found Jerome for a 61-yard touchdown, and a 2-point pass from Benda to Jerome cut the deficit to 36-28. Magnolia’s defense held the rest of the way, forcing a turnover on downs to seal the win.
Magnolia improves to 1-3 with their first win of the season and will travel to Ritchie County next Friday. Bridgeport falls to 2-3 and will travel to Conotton Valley.
