Wyoming Valley West came into their game against Scranton riding a 3-game winning streak.  The kind of momentum that the Spartans have had recently hasn’t been seen in recent years, and it continued against the Knights.

WVW put 3 TD’s on the board in the 1st quarter alone and played solid defense all night in a penalty-filled 32-7 victory over the visiting Scranton Knights.  RB Malique Campbell had 3 rushing TD’s, WR Gadgidas Reisinger had a rushing TD and QB Damian Eastman threw for a score.

The Spartans got on the board on the first drive of the game.  RB Malique Campbell hit paydirt on a 42-yard run to put WVW up 6-0 with 6:14 left in the 1st quarter.

The WVW defense came up big right away to get the ball back, and Campbell struck again with a 2-yard run to make it 13-0 WVW with 4:54 left in the 1st quarter.

But the Spartans weren’t done in the 1st quarter.  The defense again made big stops, and the offense rolled right back down the field.  This time QB Damian Eastman with WR Noah Council in the left corner of the end zone for a 32-yard scoring connection, and WVW had a 19-0 lead with 3:02 left in the opening period.

Penalties played an unfortunately prominent role in the game, which really hurt Scranton early in the game.  Multiple pre-snap penalties on the Knights stalled any momentum that they began to have on offense, and WVW took advantage.  Later in the 2nd quarter, Campbell struck again for the Spartans on a 3-yard scoring run to make it 25-0 with 1:32 left in the half.

Unfortunately, the penalties and sloppy play struck both sides in the 3rd quarter, which featured several traded possessions and no points scored.  As the game entered the 4th quarter, Scranton finally got on the board when QB Chris Manning scored on a 1-yard keeper to make it 25-7 WVW with 5:09 left in the game.

The Spartans grabbed one more score before the game ended when WR Gadgidas Reisinger scored on a 3-yard run, and the final score was 32-7 in favor of WVW.

Wyoming Valley West improved to 4-2 and will head over the bridge to play Wilkes-Barre Area next Saturday.  Scranton fell to 0-6 and will try to get in the win column next Friday up at Delaware Valley.

After the game, I had a chance to speak with WVW Head Coach Brydon Rukstalis:
