Waynesburg Central scored early and often in a 41-14 win over Southmoreland on Friday, improving to 5-1 on the season while the Scotties fell to 2-4.
Teagen Crouse set the tone on the opening drive, breaking several tackles on his way to a 77-yard touchdown run, making the score 7-0 after a successful PAT. Southmoreland’s defense couldn’t slow him down the rest of the half. Crouse set up a second score moments later, finding Hudson Bennett for a 2-yard touchdown on 4th-and-goal, making it 14-0 after a successful PAT.
The second quarter belonged to the Raiders. A Crouse fumble on another scramble bounced right to Grant Pack, who ran it in for a touchdown, pushing the lead to 21-0 after a successful kick. Kymani Sumpter punched in a 3-yard touchdown run to make it 28-0, and Crouse added his second rushing score of the night from 5 yards out, making it 35-0. Nate Ricciuti capped the half with a 38-yard field goal, sending Waynesburg Central into the break up 38-0.
Ricciuti opened the scoring in the second half as well, nailing a 35-yard field goal to push the lead to 41-0. Southmoreland finally got on the board in the fourth quarter when Reese Jordan broke a 24-yard touchdown run, making the score 41-7. The Scotties added one more late, with Colten Cochran scoring from 4 yards out to make it 41-14, but Waynesburg Central ran out the final minutes to seal the win.
Waynesburg Central returns home next week to host Greensburg Salem in conference play, while Southmoreland travels to Highlands.
