From 2017-2022 The Philadelphia All Star game pitting the best of the Philadelphia Public League against the Non Public team comprised of players from the Catholic and Inter-Ac schools in the Philadelphia area. This year players from Malvern, Haverford, SJ Prep were not included but top talent from Roman, Ryan, Judge, Wood, GA Academy, SCHA, Bonner and other CL programs were represented on the Non Public League roster. The game would start in a messy and nagging light to moderate rainfall. Public League would win the toss and elect to receive the ball.

On their first offensive play a little trickery resulted in a long pass and catch setting up 1st and goal and Lincoln Sr. RB Terrail Greene would punch it in for a quick 6-0 lead. Non Pub would fail to drive on their first possession and Pub would get the ball and stall leading to a Sabor Stevens booming punt.

Things got interesting when Frankford DB Hysiem Zimmerman would unleash a jarring hit on the returner forcing a fumble that the Public team would recover. A few plays later Northeast RB James Bermudez would punch it in on the ground for TD giving the Pub a 12-0 lead with 3:04 remaining in the 1st quarter. Non Public would go 3 and out and a poor fielding decision pins Pub back at their own 1 yard line. Northeast QB Sabor Stevens would have his pass batted down on 1st down, catches it and is tackled in the endzone for a safety which got Non Public on the board and a 12-2 score with just over a minute remaining in the 1st quarter.

Non Pub would get the ball at their own 42 yard line and a 30 yard heck of a catch from Ryan Rich Paczewski set them up with a redzone opportunity where Roman RB Jamir Robertson would scamper in from the 5 yard line to cut the score to 12-8 in favor of Pub. After a short possession Pub would put and pin Non Pub deep in their own territory before forcing a safety in which Northeast DE Tyrese Whitaker, Imhotep DL Amaury Hunter and West Philly DL Jabriel Rhodes Nelson all got pressure forcing the fumble and score to expand the Pub lead to 14-6 with 8:39 remaining in the opening half.

Not to be undone Non Pub would answer back on their next possession as Roman WR Mekhi Watson would haul in a beautiful back of the endzone reception for a score to give Non Pub their first lead of the game at 16-14 with 3:20 left in the half. The game became very interesting when the Pub responded with Northeast QB Sabor Stevens connecting with Lincoln WR Darius Hill on a 24 yard strike to give Pub the lead back 20-16 with 3:20 left in the half. Non Pub would try to get the lead back but an errant pass lead to a big pick 6 for Mastery CB Quentine Wright to expand the Pub lead to 26-16 at halftime.

The Non Pub team would find their offensive traction with another rushing TD for Romans Jamir Robertson as they cut the lead to 26-22 with 9:38 remaining in the 3rd quarter. The Pub would respond with Lincoln’s QB Khani Knight throwing a TD pass to Northeast RB James Bermudez on a 13 yard screen pass to expand the lead to 30-22 with 8:23 left in the 3rd quarter. The Pub defense would step up with creating pressure and turnovers leading to a 16 yard touch down run for Lincoln’s Koyei Simmons-Greene to expand the lead to 38-22 with 1:12 left in the 3rd quarter. Non Pub would keep things interesting as they’d close the gap to 38-30 with 3:19 left in the 4th quarter and even recover an onside kick in Pub territory before Knight would seal the game with a beautiful interception (his second of the game) to seal the win for Pub.

Knight would be awarded with MVP for the Pub offense after throwing for 1 score, recording 2 interceptions,

One of the sponsors of the game, SAFR, helped to keep the players safe.
