Last night I made the trek to Princeton High School to watch the SWOFCA vs. MVFCA All-Star game before getting into the game I wanted t give a shout-out to Rodger Horton (@Proud2BRog) for the hospitality and the pizza. Coach Horton has always gone the extra mile when it comes to making sure I have whatever I need to cover the game for @PaFootballNews.
The MVFCA All-Stars struck first with Adrian Norton (Stebbins) hauling in a nicely thrown ball from Liam Poronsky (Tipp City) for the touchdown. Out of the hold by Brock Ebrite (Eaton), Mason Grudich (Milton-Union) nailed the point after the kick to make this a 7-0 game.
Omar Beckly (West) would find Javion Bostic (Winton Woods) for 23 yards to get things started for the SWOFCA All-Stars. Later in the quarter, Griffin Scalf (Anderson) hit Isaiah Glover (Fairfield) for 17 yards to keep things going for the SWOFCA squad. The game would be tied up when Ty Snyder (McNicholas) ran in from 6 yards, and then Graham Sorg (Country Day) nailed the point after the kick.
Pronsky threw a nice ball right to Derek Motter (Vandalia Butler) to pick up 35 yards. With 4:44 left in the action-packed opening quarter, Pronsky scampered in for a 6-yard touchdown to put MVFCA up 13-3, as the point-after kick was blocked by K.Arran Love (Fairfield).
A fake put attempt was squashed by the MVFCA when Timiko Jackson (Lasalle) easily stopped Norton about 4-yards short of the first down marker. The last big play of the quarter came when Poronsky dropped a pass in the arms of Stanley Clyne (Tipp City), resulting in a 30-yard catch.
The second quarter only produced six points, but there were enough exciting plays to keep the crowd in the game. The score came when Clyne scored from 43 yards out, making the score 19-7 with 11:24 left in the half. Some of the other highlights included a 24-yard catch by Bostic, with Griffin Scalf (Anderson) making the pass. The same combo would strike again, this time for 35 yards, when Bostic made a diving catch. The last ten seconds in the second half would bring us to picks. The first one looked to be a pick-six by Ronald Cutts (Taft), but a flag was thrown on the return, taking the points off the board. The half ended with Marcus Tyree (Northridge) making the pick to take Uncle Mo. into the MFVCA locker room.
In the third, the defenses both pitched shutouts, while the offenses only found their way to two big plays. The first came when Ebright found Clyne for a big 38-yard gain. The last play from the offense came on a Glover pick-up of 32 yards after making the catch on the Scalf pass.
With 9:48 remaining in the contest, Clyne picked up 20 yards on another catch, then Ebright found Key’Shaun Golden (Dunbar) for the 5-yard touchdown to make this a 25-7 game. SWOFCA would get a 75-yard catch and run from Johhny Cotton (Taft), with Beckly making the pass, making this a 25-14 game with 6:27 left. A fumble by the MVFCA was recovered by Ronald Cutts (Taft) to put the SWOFCA offense right back on the field just ten seconds after the score. Bostic would make a big, leaping 26-yard catch to get things moving for the offense. The PAFOOTBALL NEWS PLAY OF THE GAME came when Ravon Rogan (Urbana) stole the ball from the ball carrier and took it 99 yards for the MVFCA touchdown to make this a 31-14 game. The final score came when Beckly hit Bostic for a 12-yard touchdown, making the final score 31-21.
