Ohio All Star game: North 39 South 18 (Div1-3)

At one time, this was one of the biggest and best all-star games, not only in Ohio but the nation. Nowadays, like most all-star games, the so-called “bigger-name” players elect not to play, afraid that they could be hurt and miss getting their start at the next level. For those players brave and dedicated enough to play in them, for the most part, you can see how much pride they have in doing so, and more often than not, it shows in their level of hard play.

This game was as one-sided as it could be, with the North dominating in every fashion. The South did score three late touchdowns to make the score closer than the game was, though you had to love the way they dug down and never stopped giving their all in defeat.

The North got on the board first when Juan Jackson from Medina opened the scoring with a 38-yard touchdown catch from Nathanial Vamos of Avon, making it 7-0 at 7:43 of the first quarter. Nathanial Vamos would connect on a field goal to put the North up 10-0 with 3:44 left in the quarter. With just 0:16 left in the quarter, Hunter Hopperton of Streetsboro made this a 16-0 game with his touchdown catch.

Vakos easily hit a field goal from 24-yards out to give the North a 19-0 lead with 8:19 left in the half. Trey Martin of Green made a Lynn Swann type of diving catch to give the North a 25-0 lead with 0:13 seconds left in the half.

The North defense got the scoring started in the 2nd half when Eric Holley picked off a bad South pass and easily found his way into the endzone, making this a 32-0 game. The first score from the South came when Joey Farthing from Dover picked up the North’s onside kick and took it to the house from about forty yards out, making this a 32-6 game. Trey Martin scored with 8:43 left in the game to give the North a 39-6 lead. The South would get scores from Carson Gresock and Markez Gilliam to give us our final score of 39-18.
